NOT NEW AT THE BUSINESS Wa'lace H. Packard, Alleged Forger, Said to Be Versatile Ogerator. 1ECORD UNFOLDED &Y OMAHA POLICE Young Mam is Taken Back to His Home ant North Platte to Await Developments in Court. It has developed that Wallace H. Pack- ard, alleged forger, the young mar cap- tured by Detectives Marshall and Davis at the Omaha National bank Friday noon, has been plying his craft for some time past, Invariably making his relatives at North Platte the victims. His first suc- cessful attempt, according to Information secured by the police, was at North Platte about September 3, when he is sald to have cashed a check, supposedly signed by his sunt, Mrs. Rittmer, for $3. He is next heard from in Denver, where, It is alleged, he passed a check for $5 signed by him- gelt, and, which when discovered to be worthless ' was made good by relatives fesiding there, who had identified him at a Jocal bank. When his room at the Paxton hotel was searched Friday, among the young man's effects the police say they found a check drawn and signed by Pack- ard which only lacked the inserting of a stated amount to make it a ful-fledged check. It is the opinion of the police that the young man Intended springing the eheck on the management of the hotel. It is alleged that letters which Packard evidently intended matling to a man named Butts, who resides near Denver, wereé found in his effects, in which he promised to delver to Butts forty head of young cattle at an average price per head of $i2. In this letter, the police say, Packard had arranged to meet Butts at Kansas City and arrange final details for the delivery of the stock. Packard is but 28 years of age. He ls tall and has an impressive face Wwhich betokens anything but the rogue. _He is sald to be well-connected. O.
