D18 Dot FILE CHARGES OF CRUELTY Smallpox Hospital at Toledo is to De & Subject of OMolal Ine vestigation, TOLEDO, O., Dec. 30.—The first ofclal sacknowledgment of repeated charges of eruelty to and neglect of smallpox patients at the Toledo Contaglous Disease hospital was made today, when the Board of Police Commissioners subpoenaed witnesses. It is charged by various ex-patients that some persons suffering from smallpox were struck by nurses; that they were neglected and in their delirium allowed tp wander about in the snow clad In their under- raiment; that they were miserably fed, even when their convalescent condition would permit of substantial food.
