G i——— DEMAND FOR IR IRON GROWING Blast Farnace Statistes Show a Most Healthy Industry. NEW YORK, June 12—Our montbly blast furnace statistics this time refieot, as they should, says the Iron Age, the special con- ditions which prevailed on June 1, through the temporary banking of a number of stacks in the Shenango and Mahoning val- leys, the majority of which have since re- sumed. The result is that the capacity of the coke furnaces in operation was only as compared with It is probable, how- ever, that the output of the current month will be up to the 1500,000-ton mark. It reached 1,570,230 tons in May, a month of thirty-one days. From the west come reports of some buying of foundry iron for 1308 delivery, but, on the whole, meiters of iron seem dis- posed to await developments. Spot iron continues exceedingly scarce and higher, and higher prices are being paid for it. Importaticns are continuing of low phos- phorus iron, both eastern Penusylvania and the Pittsburg district baving taken round lots. The domestic production of menganif< erous matter is at a low ebb, and the bulk of our consumption is now covered by im- portations. The recent purchases by one steel plant are 15,000 tons of splegele- izen. Steel is scarce and it losks as though we shall have to import for some time to come. In the beavy lines, notably in steel rails, beams, structural matter and plates, the mills could run full to the end of the year and in some lines well toward the middle of next year, in order to deliver ail they have sold. In steel ralls they will certatnly carry considerable work due in 1902 and 1903. They arc now seliing quite Iiberally for 1903 delivery, considerable ad- ditional sales having been made iu the last week. The same is true in an even more pronounced degree of structural matter, and largely, too, of plates. DECISION FAVORS -WiDOW Plant Trust Fund is to Be Removed from Comnecticut to New York. WATERBURY, Conn., Jume 12—Judge Robinson of the superior court has handed down & decision dissolving the injunction which restrainedsthe executors of the Plant will from removing the $17,000,000 trust fund from Connecticut dnto New York, ex- cept that §15,000, the amount of & legacy to which Charles E. Hoadley of this city is entitled, as representing his children, must remain in this state sccording to the de- cision Judge Robinson finds that_the Hoadley heirs are collateral kindred, being sons of a half-brother of the testator, and as such they have collateral interest in the estate, He does not find, however, that according to the will, they are in any way interested in the distribution of the $17,000,000 trust fund in the event of the decease of the beneficiary mentioned in the will. Freight Ship Goes Ashore. NEW YORK, June 12.—Frelght steamship Humoto of the New York & Porte Rico Bteamship, went ashore in New York har- bor today. The vessel had arrived from Norfolk, Va., and Captain McLean, its com- mender, intended to make an anchorage off Liberty, when, owing to a dense fog, he lost his bearings and the ship stranded on Oyster island. In answer to signals of distress a railroad tug went to the stranded ship and made peveral ineffectual attempts to pull it into deep water. Another effort 1 will be made at high for Jeflerson Davis Areh. ATLANTA, Ga., June 12.—The design for the Jeflerson Davis memorial arch to be erected 1n Richmond, Va., wiieh W wsv- mitted by Louis Albert Guérebiod w8 ,.. cepted by a commitlee NeESentink the United Daughters of the Qonfederacy and the Federation of Southern Memorial -ocl.- ties has been announced. The design pro- poses an arch, Corinthian:in style, to be comstructed of southern gramife, haviog & height of sixty-five feet, & width of seventy feet and & breadth of twenty-four feet, The archway is to be twenty-five feet' wide and forty feet wide in the cleal.
