OOMIlAanuM with Bullish Senti- ment and Prices Advance. OATS ANIMATED AND ASCEND{SHARPLY Yater Profit Taking N o Much of Gi While Provisions Split Quit Higher to Lower. cHx AGO, June 12.—Bulligh sentiment put Srain prices wp today Trade was of ttie mporiance, save in oats, where there was good activity. The scarce news, how. ever, was of a slightly bullish turn and the close July wheat was X@%c up, corn e higher and July oats ¢ higher. Provisions were pushed down in most products and close higher to 0c_lower. Wheat opened bullish, with upon which to argue strength. Cabled were indifferent, but receipts were small. There was more wet weather In several localities in the west and there was continued talk of reduced stocks. Cash demand, however amounted to very li.tle. Yet the crowd lal( bullish and bought. This worrled the fairly good-sized short interest, and July ter opening K@He up, at T@N4c, ad- vanced to 76ic, There was still some aX- eitement in Minneapolls and prices there advanced. Later the Liverpool cables re- rted an advance in English futures on Baa “Weather. French markets also were bigher. The market was not destined to broaden, for on the advance the leading ator interest that has been bulling July Sh3 melling Beptember turncd tactics, §1ving activity to the further deliveries and de- ressing July. The crowd talled after and §iy Weakened somewhat. The close was Father fem. July WG up. af HGIUC. Recelpts_were 15 cars, one of contract grade. Minueapolis and Duluth reported 164 cars, making a total for the three points of 11 curs, cars last week and The little_ news rimary receipts were , compared with 462,000 bush- elx last year. Seaboard clearings equalled 271,000 bushels. The seaboard reported 20 Joads taken for export, Corn was dull, but ‘firm, all day. The trade neglected this pit, but’the strength in wheat and small acceptance offset the fa- yorable weather, 8o that much support by the big bulls was not necessary. The local erowd favored buying deferred —futures. Prices advanced at the opening, but when wheat lost of its strength, corn eased and July closed steady, c higher, at 63ic. Much of the early strength was based on the argument that although receipts wera liberal at 312 cars, the percentage of con- tract grade was small, Crop reports are gat_particularly’ bearish, Iy,_those from lowa and Illinols. Ote hus ‘the sxtiting pit of the floor. The cash demand was steady. Profii-tak- Ing on the advance was plent ful and eased the demand so that much of the advance was lost. There was, however, marked in- fl-nendence na the mi. and July new closed i4c up, a AR ited” tho *packers' interests today to push provision prices down. Hogs were weaker and the natural conditions favored @ break, but after a little dip at the open- ing thomfmckarl took up_the offerings and again advanced prices. There were a few Whorts In Tibs who covered and caused an upturn, but after that was over the packers found the pit 5o dull that they could not unload pork or lard on anyone, save at Towar phices. P. is Augumented, NEW YORK, June 12.—The stock market m.fml today in a torpld condition and deal fell off about one-third from yes- terday’s aggregate. The efforta which were conspicuous yesterday to adyance prices and which were still n evidence in the early market today were discontinued in face of the discouraging reception which they met, and prices were allowed to fall back. There was no actual weakness de- veloped and the selling was pretty well absorbed: In Reading_ especially, in which there were large offerings, there was ready ab- sorption and apparently a determination to_support the stock. The conspicuous position of Missouri Pa- cific was enhanced today and the volume of the dealings in that stock were far in excess of those in any other on the llst. It was moved upwards a point at one time, followed by Texas & Pacific, but the ad- vance met such heavy selling orders that the movement for the advance was aban- doned _and frlcllcnlly all the galn was lost. The only development to account for the ‘strength of the stock was the continued ' | gossip that the alvidend will shortly be ncreased. The reaction in the market was largely due to a better appreciation of the de- crease In the coming wheat crop estimate involved in the falling off in the spring wheat acreage. Thetransfer of Nebraska from the spring wheat to the winfer wheat list involves the deduction of most of its acreage from the spring wheat esti- mate. The revision in the coming wheat timate thus involved caused per- Sistent atrongth in the wheat market. The strength of the corn market was sald to be in sympathy with wheat, but it had even more significant influence on the ock market, owing to the vast import- ance attached to the fate of the coming ¢rop in its bearing upon the prosperity of the whole country. Speculative sentiment was less hopeful today regarding the position of the coal mining controversy. This feeling was em- phasised by rumors which found circulation hat a message to congress by the pres- ident 'on the Rubject was in contemplation. Yesterday's public statement by the oper- ators of their position was seen to involve in_effect dissolution of the miners and the irreconciliable position thus presented was felt to threaten a lengthened contest. The pressure upon sugar was connected with yesterday's testimony before the sen- e committes wegarding the methods pur- -nea in the udvoclcy of the reciprocity ey, PA Totable decline in May exports of the principal domestic articles reported from Washington had a depressing effect, espectally in view of the great importance of,» sustained trade ‘balance in favor of country duting the Rext few Mmonths ount of the heavy obligations to for- f:"" lenders which will mature in that me.
