Ilis state- ment was reduced to writing, and he sub- scribed to it before a nots Two hackloads of men went from this city to Colorado Springs late last night with the avowed purpose of running Detective Peter Zagles, Governor Waite's agent, out of town, but they failed to find him, as he had gone to Denver. The grand jury has returned in- dictments, most of which grew out of the Cripple Creek troubles. The cases of the tarrers have not been passed upon yet. The jury made a presentment declaring that “‘des- Derate men have gathered from all parts of the world in certain portions of El Paso county,” and that “‘extraordinary measures are necessary for the enforcement of the laws." The Insurance amounts to something over $100,000. The building was owned by James McCord of St. Joseph, Mo., and was valued at $50,000, with an insurance of $30,000, which will not cover the loss, as it was almost completely gutted. The fire started on the second floor, probe ably from electric wires, and spread with great rapidity. One of the side walls fell and narrowly escaped injuring the crowd of by- standers. The company is one of the oldest in the west, and the principal stockholder is James McCord of St. Joseph of the firm of ave, McCord & Co., at that place. He is also interested in a large number of houses in the west. BLAZE IN ROGERS PARK. Business Block 1n Chicago's Northside Suburb Destroyed by the Flames. CHICAGO, Aug. 8.—A fierce firo borke out In the business portion of the north side suburb, Rogers Park, about 10 o'clock today. The fire was soon beyond the control of the local fire department, and assistance was asked from Evanston and other neighboring towns. After a hard fight the firemen gained con= trol of the flames shortly before noon. The entire block of small businese houses on the cast side of North Clark street between Jackson and Greenleaf avenue was destroyed, including eight stores and six dwellings, Mrs. Dr. Burbank and daughter, who lived in a over Burbank’s drug store, were seri- ously burned, and a policoman who carried them from the building was badly injured. ‘The loss is about $50,000, partially insured.
