Frainey's Shakespeare. There is nothiug that delignts an intel- lectual audience, or even an audience de- ficient 1n intellect but still intelligent enough to appreciate the naked human soul vivid with all phases of fecling and passion, so much as a Shakespeurian recital. The mighty thoughts of the ightiest mind ever produced by the human race have a charm and o fascination for all people. Conse- quently it goes without saying that the men and women who gathered in Cha last evening to listen to John J. K citais were well pleased. Thos been familiar with Mr. Frainey since he i been studying the master bard witha view to giving recitals on the gostrum., were able to detect a very great improvement in his rendition of the various selec- tions given last evening, Mr. Frainey has been a close student of Shakespeare all his life, and has all the great master's lines at the end of his tongue, and is consequently well equipped for giving an evening’s enter- tainment that will suit any kind of an auaience. ~ He never misquotes and brings out the hidden meaning and grandeur of every line. His voico and stage presence create a favorable impression that grow: with each seicction. While not attempting to impersonate the character, yot his earncstness and entire loss of self-conscious- ness brings the character in flesh and blood before the eyes. There is no doubt but that Mr. Frainey will make a success of the work he has undertaken, and that future audi- ences will be still more highly delighted than were the ladies and gentlemen who listened to him last night and were so well pleased. The opinion seems to be gaining ground among the city officials that if there was a mistake made whea the present city build- ing was put up it was 1 selecting heating apparatus. There are three buildings be longine to the city within dbout fifty feet of each other, and each building has its separ- rate heating plant, The main buiiding is heated with steam and the jail and. the patrol house with stoves. A comparison of the figures in the city auditor's possession shows that move money has actually been spent during the part of the winter that has passed in heating the two smaller build- ings than in the larger one. The fire in the jail is attendea to almust entirely by * the prisoners, who are rather reckless as to theamount of coal they use. While the building was in process of ion the plan was suggested of having s connected by pipes and heated by the steam plaut. Thnis could have been done &t an additional cost of about 300, but the aldermen, in a spasm of sup- posed economy, said no. It is said that all three buildings could be heated in this way with little, it any more fuel than is now used for the main building alone, and the plant now in use would undoubtedly be suf- ficient for all purpuses, for it has never yet been run to more than one-quarter of its cu- pacity. If the baildings were counected b; steam pipes the change would be paia for in two years at the outside in decreased coal consumption, to say nothing of the advantage in the way of economy. 1t 15 probable th somothing of this kind will be done befor next fall, Favorable Inducements will be offered to a few reliable and energetic agents who will solicit for the Mutual Life Insurance com- pany.
