The railroad earnings for the month thus farave only 896 percent less than those of last L the decrease for tho latest week being even smaller in freight earnings. Trade waits for the rovival of industries, and the week's rotorns respecting industrial progress are rather conflicting. There has been a heavy sale of cotton goods at very satisfactory prices and the market has decidedly strengthened in con- sequence. The shipment from Boston, according to the Shoe ana Teather Reporter, shows a de @ of 12 per cent for the week. A gradual increase in the busine: re- ported at all centers not wholly confined o orders for immediate delivery. A new com- pact of the steel rail producers, the Penn- sylvania and the Maryland works having been leased to others in order to keep them iale, has checked the increase in purchasers of ore and coal and other materials, and the Pittsburg manufacturers are playing navoc with eastern markets through the prices made 1n that region. * There is a cousiderable increase m tho number of concerns in operation, but there does not appear to be much gain in actual cousumption of pig iron, and prices are as low as ever. Even in the Pittsburg aistricts, where the business secems more active than elsewhere, the works are not fuliy employed, and the stute of manufacture is shown by thé returns of Conuellsville coke furnaces, of which 6,485 are 10 operation and 11,060 are idle, the output being only 57,755 tons weekly. In the minor metals the sale of 5.000.000 pounds of copper at 83{ cents by the Calu- met & Hecla has been followed by higher prices, and lead and tin are both firmer. Yroduce Markets. The marlkets for produce have heen irreg- ular. Wheat has advanced 1 cent, though eceipts have been 4,300,000 bushels, s 00,000 last year, and the exports from Atiantic ports only 600,000 bushels, against 1,900,000 last year. Tie corn re- ceipts are remarkably large, amounting to 3,000,000 bushels, against 1,300,000 last year, and the price declined 1 cent. There has been a slight decline in oil, about I{ cent in coffee, and also in hogs, and $1.50 in pork. Cotton is a sixteenth higher, though con- siderably depressed during the week. with receipts of 242,000 bales, against 23,000 for the same weck last year, and the belief in a short crop does not outweigh the fact that stocks abroad and at home are 3,242,000 bales, about 40 per cent of a full year's con- sumption. Failures for the week numbered 338 in the United States, against 180 last year, and thirty-four in Canada, against twenty-nine last year. But the list this week includes some of more than usual importance. For the preceding week tne habilities of firms ng amounted to only $3,524,512, agahst the week before. BRADSTREET'S REVIEW OF TRADE Symptoms of a Revival of Business Notice- able Everywhere, New Yorg, Nov. 24.—Bradstreet's will tomorrow say: A feature has been the stimulus of sales of scasonable staples of cotton wear at Chicago, Kansas City, Omaha, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Duluth and St. Paul, at almost all of which centers winter clothing, flaunels, shoes, hats and, in some instances, hardware have been in | great demand by country merchants, In- quiry in the city trade is smaller. Second only in importanee are improved collections at Atlanta, Chattanooga, Louisville, Oniaha, St. Paul and Duluth. A tesdency to make termig for purchases of iron and steel for future detivery at Pittsburg, Cincinnati, “hicago and St. Louis constitutes additional symptoms of a revival in these industries, the beginning of which promises to mark the opening of the new year. There is no ad- ance in prices of commoner grades of iron or steel, both selling at the lowest figures on iccord. The nominal advance 1 rails is because leading makers have renewed their agreement. Pig iron production 1s increasing slowly, and the total output for the year promises to reach 7,450,000 gross tons, a total of 17 per cent ler than in 1892, The relative stiff prices for wool at wesiern ce nters placo that staple there above a parity with castern auotatious ana checks the novement, “Phe Louisiana cane sugar crop will probubl, amount to 515,000,000 pounds, 15 per cent more than lasy year, while the tolal sugar crop throughout the rest of the country is ostimated at #4000000 nounds for 1803, 6 per cent larger thun last year, but aggregat- ing only one-tenth the size of the Louisian cane sugar crop last year, Bradstreet's estimate of domestic wheat available for export during the remuming months of the cereal year indicates that nearly 2,000,000 bushels of wheat are likely 10 prove available for export weekly if needed. notwithstanding our having exported more thau 80,000,000 bushels up to the mid- ale of November, Exports of wheat (flour as wheat), both coasts, this week aggregato 2.704,000 bushels, contrasted with 2,645,000 bushels | Dallas. | Halifax A Pure N Nurweglan oil is the kind used in the production of Scott's Emul- sion — Hypophos- phites of Lime and Soda are added for their vital ef- fect upon nerve and brain. For a numbor of years Minor Milton has been a charge upon Douglas county and has occupied quarters at the poor farm, bub is there no longer, as he has passed away and his body has been laid ina pauper's grave. There te lived und was considered one of the most respectable citizens, accumulating a small foriune in lands, horses awud cattle. In those days lands in Nebraska were frecas airand could be bad by simply pay- ing the government fee. Milton secured all that he could carry anl coveted for more, one particular tract. a portion of a school section which adjoined his many acres. This tract had been squatted upou by Heory King, and was bemg well improved. Bach morning, as Milton arose from his bed, he would 00k oup of his houss and swear that hie would hiave the King farm. even if he had to wade through vlood in order to secire it. Upon several occasions he sent word o Henry fing and u young brother that in order to avoll rouble they would have to move out. liach time the Kings sent back word tht they were uot of the moving kind, and that they proposed to hold the land, as it was their own and nhad beon improved and paid for with money which they had hon- estly earned. 1Blood-Stained Pages o) History. As time rolied an the ueighbors took sides and a long and bitter feud followed, whieh in the end added several bloody pages to the history of \Washiugton county. The house of the Kings was burved, their crops destroyed aund their cawtle killed. Being ovderly disposed citizens, they did not seok vengeanee, but allowed the law to take its course. They Swore out a warrant agaiust Milton, charging him with malicious destruction of property, and had him bound over to appear at the next term of tne dis- trict court. This aroused theire of Milton and his gang, ail of whom took a solemn oath thut the Kings would have to die or leave the country On the moraing of May and two Swedes, who had taken up arms against the Kings, and who were named Christensen and Jensen, respectively, drove over to Biair, where they filled up with liquor. They weut from saloon to saloon wore they were going o kill the King: in the aay Henvy King aud his young brother went to Blair and were at once in- formed that Milton was upon e warpath and that he was bant upon killing, laughed at this, but kept shady during the entire day, starting for home just after dark. They had gone but a short distanca when they discovered that they wero being pursued by Milton and his party. They put the whip to ' their lorses and far several miles it was a raco for life. Seeing that their horses were failing, they drove to the house of u farmer in order to seek ty. As they jumped from the wagon Milton drove up and, leaping out of his vehicle he Uhrow the lines to one of the SWedes and commenced pounding Henry King over the head wigh a heavy club, The first blow fetled Bimi to the ground and the next crushed his skull. No satisfled with that, he continued his cruel work until tno man's head was pounded to a jelly and hife was exting' Then turning his attention to the young King, Miltou beat him over the head until he was insensible, afier which he jumped into his wugou and, lighting his pipe, drove home.
