Armour bought wheat today, probably as much as 8,000,000 bu. Anadvance of over lc a busliel resulted The advance was Interrupted temporarily by a sharp break, during which the record for Tow prices In this markot was again broken The temporary slump, amounting to 1%c for July, was causcd by the discovery of a blunder In the Chicago graln fnspector's report on wheat stocks, necessitating a correction in tho visible supply figures. Tustead of 508,000 bu. docrease in Chicago wheat, a8 given out by the inspection bureau yosterday, thero was an_Increase. The cor- rection added something 11ke 800,000 bu. m 1o the visible supply and raised the small in- creaso of yesterday to over 1,000,000 bu Increase. After the temporary bewllderment the trade recovered its nerve and thero was good buying, during which prices quickly recovered, The feeling was greatly Improved the last hour, There were no disturbing rumors, and a nuniber of big professional bears like Linn, Wright, Brossean, turned buyers. Yesterday the beurs could afford tosit auietly on their haunches leking their ehops, while the rest of the speeulators were having thelr feelings Jiarrowed up by the decay of crodit, which they could witiiess trom tho windows of tho hall, Today tho bears wore made uneasy at finding that the run upon the banks of tho city was confined to the savings bank de- positors, and even among themn that the erowds were composed largely of women, The opening was slightly under the closing of yesterday to e above and prices weroe ad- A te, then declined 1%c for July and r September, agnin became stronger and re advineed 1%c for July and 1%c for ptember, held rather stendy, and the closing firm, nbout 'ye highor for July and e higher for September than yeste Corn at the opening was t ing atrifle under the final figures of yester- day, the large recelpts and the liberal ticrease in 1ocal stocks of a contract last week having forthe moment o depressing tenden Good buylng, however, by parties sunposed to bo representing prominont traders put the prico up from e to e, At the advance the offer- Tigs were Increased, the loeal crowd re 5 after which the market rallicd %c more and at the elose had gained from 15 to i In outs there wis cssure to soll, and althongh the buying was not considered heavy, 1t proved sufficiont to absorh the offcrings and wnco prices from e to 74, tho closo being stendy at about the top, The’ provision trade, 11ke all the other mar- kets on the floor, showed abatement of the alary coneerning money matters. On the Exchango Prices Ruled Righor— Foreign Buying a Feature, New Yonk, June 6.—President Cloveland’s pronunciamento on the fizancial situation and an extra sosslon of congress was the prineipal tactor in Wall stroet and was about tho solo topic of discussion m financlal circles. At tho Stock exchange prices ruled higher, and the bulls were assisted by buying ordors from Lon- don, estimated at upwards of 15,000 shares Baltimore & Ohlo rose 4% per cont to 71'% Lake Shore, 2 per cent to 123%, and Western Union, 1% percent to 83%. The improvement in the remainder of the list was 4 o 1% per cent, and atintervals the transactions were quite spirited. The easy rate for foreizn oxchange and the engagements of only £300.000 gold for Thurs- day s steamer stimuluted purchases. The up- wird movement, however, was checked dur- ing the afternoon by a sudden advance in the rutes for call moncy from 8 to 6 per cont, and by the knowledge “that Chicago und other western cities were muking heavy drafts upon our banks for cur iis caused the ors (o chunge fro cy not only dis- posed of what they had boughi early in the y but put out moderate short lines as well, Tlie result was a decline of 2 per cent in Liko Shore and Missour! 1 3% in r, Baltimore & Ohio, Ge ctric and Wost: ern Union.
