Lake, 3 George B, Lake, chairman; Alfred Millard, A P, Designation of grounds— Thomas Kilpatrick, chairman; Alfred Mil- lard, George B. Lake. Employment and supplies—A. P. Tukey, chairman; Thomas Kilpatrick, Alfred Millard, Several communications were received relative to constructing a section of tho south side boulevard so as to provide a speed track of reasonablo W for the special benefit of those who or imagine they ve, rapid horses. The board decided that no definite action could be taken, further than providing a level and comparatively straight drive, Councilman Hascall and several other south side citizens were present to consult with the board on starting the south side boulevard out of Bancroft street at Ninth, instead of Eighth. Engineer House had not completed his survey of the boulevard, and the board decided to lay the matter over until next meeting. Mrs. Mary A. McCoy, who has givena right of way through her livtle farm for the Florence boulevard, requested the board to move v little house back from the boule- vard. The board decided to comply with the request. A petition presented by north end citizens urged the propriety of naming the north boulevard the Florence boulevard. The name struck the members of the board very favorably, but Judge Lake held that tho board had no authority to name parks or boulevards, and it was finally decided to ave the matter with the committee on designation of grounds until next meeting. Bids for the erection of the Hanscom park vilion were opened. These are the bids: homas Herd, $11,800; 13. H. McKenna $11,580; J. R. Shaw, $12875; Henderson & Parish, §12,000; J. M. The end of the theatrical season brings to Omaha one of the brightest stars of the modern stage. This is Marie Wainwright, who appears in the first of three perform- ances at the Boyd this evening. Miss Wainwright's Viola was as ct and in- telligent a study in Sh spearean comedy as the student or the general theater goer ever enjoyed, Miss Wainwright retires from ‘the stage next month and none should miss seeing an actress whose personal beauty is only equaled by the excel- lence of her art, and nothing higher of praise could be accordea. This afternoon Miss Wainwright will be seen in modern comedy, presenting one of the successes of the passing season, C) Fiten's *“The Social Swim.” It is a comedy of fashionable life in New York, and it is said all the sartorial possibilities of the piece have been exhausted, The ladies in the cast are arrayed in the ve atest creations ot the greatest modistes of Paris, London and New York. The ladies of Omaha have a for them tomorrow afternoon. y be 1t remarkeda that the play been praised for its cleverness of plot, brightuess of dialogue and truthfulness of characterization, This evening Miss Wainwright as Rosaind, fairest femmine picture in the Shakespearian gallery, Those who saw *“The Nabobs" on its last, and first, appearance at the Farnam some munths ago will welcome the announcement of its return to the same house, where it opens a five nights engagement with tomor- row's matinee. For really funuy business, funny songs and funny situations it were hard to beat *“I'he Nabobs.” 1t is a laugh maker, nothing more, but that is much, It introduces one of the cleverest burlesque comedians on the stage today, George He shaw, whose English music hall songs sung in the first act are alone worth going for to hear; out all through the farce he is admir- able in his fooling. George Is somewhat of an Adonis, and he is pardonably cognizant of the pleasant fact, In the nponfng act ho is “'mado up’ witha face calculated to stop a clock, 80 that in the last act he may the more offectually dazzle the onlooker with his manly, Apollolike countenance, The supporting company in “The Nabobs" is particularly clever. The chorus girls are handsome and sing well. All in all, one of the best farces of the season comes to the Farnam next week, and-is presented by one of the cleverest companies in its line on the road today. The engagement of Flint, tho mesmerist, at Bovd's theater, commencing Monday night, May 20, guarantecs a novel perform ance of ‘interest to all cultured people Press and public havo pronounced him an eminent exponent of mesmerism. As a fun-maker, too, ho is said to bo considerable of a success. It is claimed that more than one-hilf the volunteers coming upon the stage prove susceptiblo to his influence. i Piles of people have piles, but Dewitt's Witch Huazel Salve will cure them, NSy POLICE COURT AND CATCHES, “Professo Loss the City's Gain to the Extent of Twenty-five—Fined and Found, Judge Boerka was kept busy with small cases yesteraay, most of the offenders being of the ‘‘vag’ variety.
