Recently, through a misunderstand- ing, this commmandery sont out n printed cir- cular announcing a rato of §12 by way of the Alton aud Union Pacitie. It was proven that this circular wus unauthorizeo, and at tha request of the Alton it had boen with- drawn, Regarding tho Batavia commandery it was shown tuat the Alton's contract with it was not closed until last Saturday, after the Atchison bad declared that tho $12 rate would be put into effect. 3 But the Atehlson Man Objected Under the circumstances the chairman was seemingly compelled to decido as he did. At tho mieling of the ussociation he an- vounced that a decision had beon reached and he would read it to the members, This he was about to do when the Avchison rep- resontative objected, on the ground that the rules required all decisions to be printed and copies seat under cover to the membors. The chairman overruled the objection, whereupon the Atchison wan left the octing, The ruling was thon read. It declared that tho company had failed to show sufti- cient justification for the notice given and that the $12 rate could not be authorized. After the adjournment of tho moeting tho geueral passenger agents of all the interested lines except the Atchison neld a conference, A conmittee consisting of P. S, Eusts of the Burlington, George H. Heaifrea of the St. Paul and John Sobastian of the Rock Island was appointed to mako application to Coairman Caldwell for an order affording the represented roads reliof as against the $12 rate of tho Atchison. Diverting Traflie to the Rock Island, Last month the commissioners of tha Western I'rafiic association issued an order to several western roads to divert certain amounts of freight to tho Rock Island. This was done under that section of the agree- ment which authorizes the commissioners to take such steps as may be necossary from time to Limo 1o secure to the other road ita sharo of the competitive trafic, The Burlington has just completed carrying out that part of the order affecting it, baving turned over to the hock Isiand’ traffio amounting to §5,000 in revenue.
