The Boyd was filled last evening and the audience was particularly appreciative. Mr. Barvard’s work is @ comedy-drama true to life and refreshingly frec from all the frills seemingly aeemed essentials in so mauy of the later so-called “irealistic” dramas, = Lts presentation by the present company is as nearly perfect as it could will be.” The setting it receives at tho Boyd is particulaily to be admired. The Miss Abby of Miss Marie Bates is a keenly cut character study, consistently expressed throughout, 8o that one looking on feels at once and constantly that just such a positive. practical, big-hearted, God-fearing New Iingland woman lives and is lovavble—an admirable bitofacting. Miss Ella Salisbury’s Sailie tempts suporlatives, so unobtrusively effective, sweet and sufficient it is. Taggs, in the care of Miss Margaret May, delights everybody and proves that such a character may bo perfestly presentad without any of the suggestive vulgarity of voice, mien and costume that 80 often disfigures what aro called ‘“soubrette’” parts in melodrama. Mr. Burton’s Otis Tucker is @ iiving man, Tim and Joel are also well presented. The chubby little tot who makes such merriment at the husking fairly captures the love of all. To many the horse racing incident will appear the greatest scene of all, ond without doubt “realism’ has scored & triumph in it; others may more deeply ap- preciate the humor and character that inform the trivial round of the farm—all must feel better with themselves and with the workaday world after making friends with the honest men and loving women whose fortunes were saved and rounded at “the county fair,” —— Federnl Building Notes, ‘The evidence in the Leighty case in the federal court was all in before noon yesterday and the attorneys began to make their argu- ments.
