Yesturday was the closine day of the county Sunday school convention. The morn- ing session was opened by an interesting bible reading conducted by J. A. Howard, the missionary for Harrison county. Miss Laura Buldwin, to whom was assigned the topic of “Primary Class Work,” had such a severe cold that she could not use her voice and Dr. Phelps, taking her notes, kinaly pre- sented hec ideas in this department of work in which she is so successful, ‘The primury department of the First Presbyterian chureh, of which sho1s thesuperintendent,hus ninety pupile. Mr. J. C. Rose, socretary of tho Young Men's Christian association, opened an 1n- teresting discussion on the question of how 1o secure substitute teachers A normul lesson on the use of the object teaching wus also given. Colonel Hoagland offered some proctical suggestions as to methods of reaching tha boys aud girls. In the afternoon Mrs. P, J. Montzomery gave an oxcellent address on the question of how to securo and hold the young people in Sunday schools. The importance of music, the literary and soclal wants of the children and other practical topics were discussed by various speakers. The secrotary, Mr. Joseph Wells, pre- sented his report, which showed that tnere were ninety-six Sunday schools in operation in Potiawattamie county during the past sor.
