Editorial Correspondence, During our investigations and subsequent exposure of numerous medical impostors and fake specialists throughout the West which have occupicd the attention of the Ciicaco Trave Review, we claim no wonderful praise and do not set ourselves up in any phari- saical sense for thus protecting the ma We have done nothing more nor less than any right-feeling, honest, pub- lic-spirited newspapers should do. As we have not been de- terred from expressions of dis- approval where imposition e ists, we will not refrain from praise where praise is fairly and honestly due; where con- demnation is proper, such is applied unsparingly, but praise when deserved should also be given without stint. Hence we do not hesitate to single out Dr. J. E. McGrew, of Omaha, Nebraska, as a practi- tioner fully deserving of the highest praise. Seventeen years' experience gives Dr. McGrew a prestige which add- ed to the general expressions of confidence expressed to the correspondent by leading citi- zens of Omaha, gives this gen- tleman a position which is im- pregnable. The fact that dis- eases of a private nature are his specialty, gives him a de- cided advantage over the gen- eral practitioner, and wherever €8¢ inquiry was made among lead- ing merchants, manufacturers, bankers, municipal and county officials and others, the strong- est preponderance of testimony showed beyond a doubt that Dr. McGrew does all that he agrees to, that every claim he makes is lived up to fully— that promise and performance go hand in hand. He is a throughly trained physician, a scientist of no un- certain standing, a deep thinker, akeen reasoner, a per- sistent reader of the literature of his profession, and hence a wide awake and intelligent specialist, He is thus better able to treat certain and defin- itely named diseases than is the physician who undertakes to treat all diseases—‘‘Jacks of all Trades” are rapidly becom- ing as unpopular in medicine as they are.in other lines of business. Hence, as a matter of simple justice, we cannot but endorse Dr. McGrew. Those who have writteg us how they have been impos®l upon and swindled will find that Dr. McGrew is as far above such petty decep- tion as the sun is superior to the rushlight, and that his methods are open and abov board. During all our investi- gations we have not encount- ered a more thorough, a better equipped or more reliable spe- cialist; during our twenty years. of experience as correspond- ent we have never had occa- sion to comment on a business conducted more in keeping with the principles of square dealing and honor, Hence, upon Dr. McGrew we set the seal of our own approval, and will as a journalist guarantee that every transaction with him will be honestly conducted. as far as heis concerned.— Chica- go Trade Journal. FARMER BROWN'S BAY NARE. Rochester Post-F ‘Pa, take the glass wad see ain’t some one turnin’ into our lane? it’s comp’ny comin’ I want to know." Old Daniel Roberta arose from his chair in which it was his fashion to sit tilted back, his head resting on the whitewashed wall of the kitehen, and as it had been his habit to sit in exactly the snme place off and on for the last ht or ten years. his head had left its printin a round greisy mark on the wall. Daniel Robert’s folks always kept n small fiold glass with which to scan the road and long lane whichled up from it to the farmhouse. “Why, I do declare, ma! if it ain’t Luke Brown an’ his wife from Altower! He said Levi shouldn’t bring her home, an where else could the boy tuke her? He said she was only fit to read novels an’ sew her finery an’ that she’d never be any help tomwe, an’he wouldn’t have her ‘round for me to wait on. I d1d risk all that: for Levi had come to me an’ he said to m ‘Mother, couldn’t you get father to consent to my marvyin’ Maturie an’ to me bringin’ her home?’ He says, ‘Mother, Maturie is stronger than she looks, she does asight o’ work for all her brothers an’ her si ters, an’ father needn’t think she’ll sit still' here an’ let you do everything. An’ besides,’ says he, ‘mother, 'l never marry anyone else! there aint no use for father to will it. He said she hadn’t a and to her name, and that he meant Levi to have the farm an’ if he was to get it he must look higher than if that I now says Mrs, “WORTH A GUINEA A BOX.” Tn the family are more often the result of disordered digestionthan most people know. The two women sat opposite each other rocking backwards and forwards in thew rocking chuirs, while through the open windows near them came the smell of the early fruit blossoms—pear and apple and plum. “Well,” resutaed Mrs. Brown, ‘‘the second mornin’ aftor the fire we was ittin’ at breakfast. Luke had hardly tasted a bite, but sat there lookin’so glum, when who should drive righb past the window, into the yard an’ up to the horse block but Maturie Bell an’ I guess Luke thought he'd seen a spook sure, for there was Star, our bay mare, hitched to the buggy before her.’ “Law sakes! Mis’ Brown, did Maturie come by that?” her listener. “Why, the thing’s as piain as day- light. You see them horse buye horse thieves, I mean—thoy took the mare out of her stable after we was gone to bed ana set fire to the barn, 80 as to throw us off our ftrack, “sposin’ it wouldn’t be found out but what ihe mare was burnt, too; an’ sure enough, wo thought she was, although we couldn’t find no bones of her next day. Well, of course these men got the sturt, an’ by the next mornin’ they was miles back in the conntry where we knowed no one an’ none knowed us. but Providence willed they should stop to Juke Trotter’s place for rest an’ water an’ feed for their horses, an’ if Jake Trotter don't happen to beMaturie’s own uncle on her mother’s side an’ Maturie had gone down there to v weok, 80,0’ course, she kuowed the mare the moment she sot eyes ou it. Ain’t Levi taken her many a :ide be- hind it? Maturie, she got her uncle to question the men quiet an’ unsuspicious like, an’ they said as how Star wuas o horse they ‘d bought two weeks before of a man named Smith somewhere back in the country. Course they never thought of there bein’ any one round as would know they was lym’. As for Jake Trotter he warn't any the wiser; but Maturie, when she heard this, she says to her uncle, ‘Oh! I ‘spose I was mistaken in her.” But she knew there wasn’t two horses with just exactly them same points us Star, soshe just watched her chance an’ when the men went off with Trotter to look at a horse he had in a uneighbor’s barn she slipped in where Star was eatin’ an’ sho called her soft by the pet name Luke calls her by, an’ the horse knowed Maturie at once an” whinny’rd to her; so Maturie she made up her mind in a minute an’she just took that norse an’ with their hired boy's help—sho tola him it was stole an’ she knew hi rightful owners an’ was goin’ to take it back to them—she hitched him to her uncle’s buggy an’ off she rode it for all it was worth. She didn’t even wait to get a cloak or shawl or anythin’ for Toar her uncle’s folks would stop her, an’ the hired boy was most seared to death an’ said he was ’fraid they’d both be took to ‘juil for horse stealin’, but Maturie 1 was 80 sure it was our horse an’ that it was stole from us, that she didn’t care.
