BALANCE, and Credits Between the City and County Cropping Up, For ten days tho county commissionors bave been busy figuring ont the condition of the road fund, ‘They hoped to report yestor- day afternoon, but wes i to ask for more time, This investigation was brought about two weeks ago when Mr. Berlin ‘stated that the road fund was in a w ched condition, hav- ing been overdraw:n 0,000, At (hat tine Mr. Timme denied the statement made oy Mr. Berlin and stated that the fund was not ouly intact, but that it contained something liko 000 unexpended. With opiuions so widely differing the commitice on roads went to work to ascertain who was right. Yesterday Mr. Berlin said o w tostand upon his first statement, wh Timme said there was some §3,000 in s with other subjects 1o investigate, Mr. Berlin insists that tho counfy owes South Omaba $30,000, North Thirticth street, 11,500, Carr 4,000 on_grading South Thir- teenth street, and the city of Omali $0.66.50, Mr. Timme admits that the books show an indevtedness of §,666.%0 in favor of the city of Omaha, but claims thatthero is an offset of nearly thut amount for boarding city priso lu case the county should chavee up this amount, the city promises to take u hand. Comptroller Goodrich states thala number of times the city has advanced money 1o pay for doing county pavimg and grad- ing. This money has never been repaid. There is also unother item, In the city po lice court, when prisoners ave fined, a lirge number of them appeal 1o the district court. Then they frequently pay the fines and costs imposed by the lower coart, but immediately the monoy is vaid into tho county ireasury and the city noever gets a cent. Cowmptroller Cioodrick is of tho opinion that when this matter is thoroughly investizated 1t will ba found that the county owes the city thou- sunds of dollars, as tho practice has been going on since the adoption of the metropoli= tan charter. - Whoopinz Couzh. from whooping cough ough Kemedy is frooly ough loose and makes and 50 cent bottles when Chamberlain’s givon.
