NEW Yok, Nov. 4.--The stock market on the whole toduy was aull and irregular, but strength predominated and the early dealings and weakness fn the final trading with o period of almost utter stugnation between. There was good buying from London this morning, but the support from domestic oper- Ators slight. Lute inthe duy there was lurge withdrawals of money by Boston institutions and the rate of moncy on call was run up to 15 per cent while at the same time a_heavy seiling move- ment in Texas Pacifie securities, most ot which was for the account of a falled Boston firm which held large amounts of both the stocks and bonds. ‘The money rates causcd the selling of considerable short stock In the general list and prices ylelded materinily ail along the line thoush the effect was gener- ally to wipe out the early ndvances only. o uctlvity of the day wis contined aimost entirely to Bt. Paul, Atehison and Chicago Gas. Thegstrength in the St. Puul stocks was wost pronounced in the forenoon after the Issue of the statment of the October earnings, which for the fourth week were the largest of any week in the history of the company. The grangers were all honefitted by this, and even the Rock Island, which showed u loss for the veek, advanced. The opening were small fractions better than Monday's fina s and large fractions were added to these giins, anong the active shares duriug the forenoon. The movement attained no great proportions among the restof the listand died _away completely before noon. Prices then settled away on'a very limited business until the lust hour, when the bidding up of money and the weakness in Texus Pacifio weakened the rest of the market, and in most stocks the early gains were ' neutralized.
