This pretty little lake is about thirty miles south of Council Blafls, as the crow flies, and two or threo miles east of u smuil station (Bartlette), on the “R. C." ‘Ihe east shore of the luke is bordered by bigh bluffs, the margin being shaded by drooping willow, ash and oak, undernecath whose shado there isa thick growth of rushes, swoet flag and rod-stemmed smart weed, which makes splendid feediug ground early in the fall for wood duck aud teal, but later when the shooting becomes general thoy leave the shore for new feeding places farther out in the lake among the bushels of smart weed, wild celery and other tender aquatic vlants. At night the ever gregarious teal and wood duck will collect around some large rat houso to partake of & rich supper of colery and other tender roots and plants brought to the surface by the industrious 1ats. Mallards, 1o, get their shave of the edibles and keop up s continual quacking throughout the night. The west shore of this lake is bordered by prairie grass, sioughs, red-twigged maples and nttie sil: vor-twigged wiliows.
