Fremont Benjamin said that Council Bluffs bad now nominated a senator ana @ repre sentative, and it looked as though Blufls was goivg to Lry to corner the whole ticket. J. J. Shea said that the east enders might nominate anyone they could, but when it came to nominating a man_who had fought democrats whenever he took a notion, the houest democrats in the citv, and counutry districts as well, would call a halt themselves. For five minutes Shea and Campbell shook their fists at each other, while the delegates velled and cheered. Ou the fouith Brig, Hemstead, 57 was declared nominated. Candidates were then named for the oftice of treasurer. Reed, Matthews, Sgetman, Hardin, Kuepher and Rice wero brought be- fore the convention. Boston Store, Council Bluffs, Ia, Concluded Its Session Tho Missouri Valley Medical association concluded its rirst session for the fourth year at 6 o'clock last evening. The parlors of the Grand hotel, where 1t was designed at first to hold the meeting, were found too small to properly accommodate the hundred or more dclegates who had gatherad to ar- teud the weeting, and the session yesterday was held in the federal court room in the government building. The first hour was devoted to hearing the reports of standing committees, and at §:30 the reading aud discussion of papers was commenced. It was a lengthy programme: The wmatter that elicited the greatest in- terest and consumed the most time was the discussion of the Keeley cure for drunken- ness. There is trouble in the Kirst Boptist church, There is no startlingly fresh news in such an announcement, for the course of the church for the last ten or twelve years has been characterized by frequent jars and jolts. 'The present trouble is over the pas- toral relationship. Certain members claim that it is navisable to have a change. They y serious complaints Lo maie against * tho pastor, Rev. L. A, Hall, but they claim that he s 00 much of a czar, that he lacks in judgment and abounds 1u irritation. Those who think the time has come for a change secured about forty signatures to a formal call for o church weoting to be held one week from next Monday evening for the avowed pur- pose of ‘‘considering th ship.” It is uaderstood that the intent re- ally 1s to take action to secure the vastor's resignation, This call was read by the church clerk at last Sunday morning’s service. The pastor followea it'up by some choice bits of pulpit sarcasm, in which he used scriptural = illus- cations to make plain his meaning that this was a very “peculiar people.”” He said his- tory repeats itself, and that the prosent at- tempt was not so much a desire to got rid of the pastor us to wet rid of the wiilof the Lord. The church had driven one pastor after other from the field, but he did not propose to be frightened away in any such manuer. He then closed the ser by announcin the hymn, ““A Char Mvr. Hall and his friends are preparing to meet the disaffected ones at the coming meet- ing. They claim to be in a majority, aud that instead of deposing o pastor, the disturbers of the peace of Zion will be summarily turown out of the church. As Mr. Hall ex- presses it iu private conversation, *‘Just as 8001 as we toss this vallast overboard you l\\'ill s2e the church go up just like a bal- oon, " His opponents declare the church is going up now, and it will be “‘clear gone” if some- thiog 1s not done. ‘Lhiey say they want more ballast and less gas. There is much bitterness of feciing, and the condition of affairs is lamentable to those who desire the peace and prosperity of Zion. A peculiar coincidence occurred on Tues- day, which is of interest in tuis connection. The Omaha Baptist asso ciation ~ heid its meeting at He- bron, Neb.,, Rev. Mr. Lamar has been assigned a placo on the programme to speak upon “I'he causes which justify a sev ance of tho pastoral relaiionship and the influence of a minority.” Rev. Mr. Lamar was unable to be present and at his request Rev. Mr. Hall took his place and his topic. DeWitt's Little karly Risers; best little pills for dyspepsia, sour stomach, bad broath.
