Person- ally [ velieve this departure would pay the telegraph_comvanics; certainly it is no iu fraction of their vested rights to do as much for them as thoy do for the department aud hence for the people. Tho tank was destroyed, a plumber named George Kurz was badly burned, and a helper named Thomas Bowles, was injured about the eyes and on the face. It seems that the tank had been used for the storage of crude il und was connectod witha pump. By mears of the latter, air was forced inito it, ereating a pressure which forced the oil through tho pipos to the plates and ovens where it was lighted for baking purposes, The tank explo- took plav lenkod and the plumber was called in to repair it The latter atfirst ro- fused to mako the ropnirs until the tank should have been emptied of the oil.
