'I'yndale, the saiutatorian of the class, came forward and weicomed the audienco 1n a finely prepared speech. ou. John N. Batdwin was then introduced as the orator of the occasion. His address consisted in a brief outline of the history of education, and the part it had played in the world's histor then pro ceeded to potnt out one or tivo_defects in the system of education which is followed out in this couutry. “While education has de- veloped with startling rapidity,” he said, ill, as a fabric, the superstructure is with: out fimsh and in many places without symmetry. ‘The necessity for reform ls un doubtedly appreciated by cducators. It is not o fact that unhappiuess rests like a brooding spirit over those who had some- thing of an oducation, but not properly directed, aud who bave rewurned to their former walks in lifo, becausc the education they have received only created in them a de- siro for a professiont ~ The difiiculty avout the matter is that % little kuowledge becomes a danwerous thing. Miss Lilian M. Jackson then favored the audience with a yocal solo, entitled “The Mother's Dream,” a remariably beautiful composition, sung with great feeling, after which Miss Elsie P. Houn stepped to the front with the valedictory. It showed much paration, and was different from a in taking 4 common sense view of the occasion rather thau u sen- rimental one. The cluss song was then sung, the words to which were composed by Rev. G. W. Crofts ospecially for the aud adupted to tho tune “*Auld Lang Syn, The members of the class were then grouped upon the staze and presented with their diplomas by President Welis of the board of cducation.
