» N THE OMAHA DAILY BEL: FRIDAY, MAY 1, 1891 BY CEORCE FRA (IS TRAIN. Omaba People Highly Fntortained by the Great Agent of Peyoho. HE GIVES OUT A LONG INTERVIEW. What He Predicts for Omaha's Fu- ture the World's Fair—- vees and Politios ally Dilated On. and An audionce of fully At the Boyd last evening to hear Georgo Francis T'rain, the living embodiment of the pychic force that rules the world, recast the past and prophetically foretell the future. His costume was something of a cross be- tween full evening dress and a Grand Army of the Republic uniform, but was supposed to bave no connection with cither, It was a product of the wearer's individuality, and blne claw hammer coat, patent pumps, b buttons and tricolor badge wero individual and oollective features of Trainomania. His was a strizing figuro, and cven to those Who had known him for thirty years, he was 80 object of keen interest. 'Ihio powerful frame wis surmounted by a head of mam moth proportions. His face was brown as a berry, the result of numerous outings in Madison Square, with the childven and birds for companions. Above all waved his 1o haps the strangest thing about this most strango man were his eyes—weird, brilliant orbs of i pleasant huo, in which momentarily )flasted lights of strange intelligence and in the noxtinstant beamed with kindly conrtesy His face bore the impress a high order of intellect, and he scemed ind the exponent of forces widely at va rlance with those gencrally “understood, As ho talked he secmed fully as uulike other men as he cluimed to be, and to be rather a wonderful combination of egotism, fnsanity and brilliancy, the like of which is to , earth, nor ass g white hair, T It was 5 :30 o'clock when Mr. was os corted upon the stage by Mayor Cushing amid round after round of hearty applause, wero many ladies in the au dicnco y joined heartily in the welcomo that was uccorded to the noted citizen and tray eler. Among those occupying seats on the stago wore Mossrs. George . Bemis, Adolpn Meyer, E. Rosewator, C. Hartman and Mr, Train's p at globe trotter was very pleasantly ced by the mayor asa man who b more cities and been in more jails oncelse in the country, Mr. Train was wreeted as he stopped forward and reguested the footlights .turned down so as to give him a good vie the audienco, and hoat ooce turned nin loose. placed himself in the hands of the sudienco and asked them to tell him what to talk about. He answered all questions, and everything went i a rambling disjointed, disconnected sort of u way, that was often fncoherent, but always interesting, Ho w in excoilent humor, told jokes and stori sad in the language of tue Mafia, hisaudi ence was “wid 'im.” He told of bis abstinence from meat for sixteen years and his refusal to touch man or woman. He outlived the carly history of Omaha insomuch as he was connected with it. He pleaded guilty to being a crank, and doclared that cranks had done all the great things in the world's bistory. Said he: !Take Rosewater's building” up here— if you hadn't had a colossal crank at tho head of your newspaper enterprises herce in this gigintic aty of Omaha he never could huve got those biz stones up to thetop. Nobody but a crank could have builded a oity of 140,000 in_the midst of the primeval vrairie ard nobody but a crank can make it city of 500,000, leaving Chicago astern.” Mr. Train declared that he would take nothing but an_occasional cup of coffeo for 160 days, and’ 1s now toning down his l'nmm'gl to cheese and crackers. He advised non-sectarian and non-partisan work in building up Omaha. When asked to discuss Jay Gould he declared that the “httle wizard” didn't weigh six ounces to the pound and was the bigeest bunco-steerer the world ever kuew. Gould pla the whole country in the hands of a receiver, and s a result the whole country Is macadamized with poverty. He attributed the miscarriage of law to the fury system and said that an’ eligiblo juror Inust be a natural d—a fool. He taid all hygionic trouble at the door of over eating, and said toat if you eat dead flesh you are of necessity vartly dead. To illus- trate, ‘he pointed to Cleveland's 260 of ‘adipose tissue and asked “\ ounds tat show he stood to be president of the ‘United States. He coolly announced that he was chivf of the Matia and the time would come when he would have to go to Rome and ay $100,000,000 to balance the international 0ks on account of the New Orleans episode, He knew the country wouldn't have an- other president and aniounced that the coun- wy is on the eve of a revolution. Ho also touched on finanse and said that Baring Brothers owned the world, with the exception of his possessions and hall of Omaha, He gave his audience a quiet ti ble financial crash that is uled w0 be here in thirty days and is on time. He told how his Omaba propecty was confiscated whilo he was in the Tombs for obscemity for Eubl bing three columus of the bible, ver- atim, ot punctuatim, et literatim, He said Omaba was the only place in the country where an editor dared write an edi- torial “without covsulting the oracles of Gould. After decorating the mayor, Messrs. Bemis, Lumbard, Rosewater and the reporters an secretary with roses and advocativg a mar- ket of flowors, the orratic genius hit Gould another jolt, gave Omabia another good word and said good night. He was frequently aud loudly cheered, and the audienco evineed a position to stay all night it necossary. After the lecture a num- ber of citizens renewed their acquaintance with Mr. Train, and any and all were invited 10 call upon him today at the Puxton, on aterri- TRAINOMANIA, An Interview with. the Written by Himself It was probably due to psychic force that Mr. Traio knew ho would be requested to grant T Bexan lutorviow, At any rato when the requost was made Mr. Train was preparod for it, and offered “the munuscript for tho following, with Siticest injunction that the matter appear in the paver iust as written by him: Citizen “L'rain cutting Round World Rec. ord! THER PLAN OF ACTION EXPLAINED. ¢ Grain Dealers Propose to Estab- lish an Open Board Inde- pendent of the Omaha Board of Trade. The Omaha grain and produce exchange has filed articles of incorporation, The capi- tal stock is placed at £10,000 divided into 100 shares of $100 each. The articles further | provide for a board of directors wnd ofticers such as is customary with organizations of the kind, "Ihe incorporators are Omaha grain men A. B. Jaquith, manager and . P, Peck s retary of the Omaha elevator company, “les Ho Fowler, treasurer of the Fowler Ator comnp: A. Counor an elevator recently come to Omaha from Platts- L and J. K. Price, a broker. According to the articles only one share of stock can be held by one member, and it is intended that only a small per cent of the stock shall be paid in at the commencement, the balance as it may be required. ‘The object of the exchange as explained by the incorporators is to facilitute business transuctions in grain and all kinds of produce. e way the businessis conducted at pres- ent if u dealer receives a car of grain or hay heds compelled to run all over the city to find a buyer andis put to an unnecessary auount of trouble. Tho exchange proposes to rent a room, the old board of trade room would suit them, if it can be had, amd establish hours for meeting where the buyers and sell 13 0f the different products could assemblo i transact business, In other words the exchauge proposes to establish an open board similar to those existing in other cities. It isintended to nave all arrangements por- fected for opening the board July 1. Besides facilitating the exchange of the different comuiodities the open board will es tablish a market which can be reported to the country and shippers given an ideaof what tq expect in return for shipments of Krain or produce to this market. In the past Omauha has had no_established gram market. ‘Those who have been instrumental iu the organization of the oxehange di any intention of antagonizing the boa trade inany way whatever, but that they feel that au orkanizition composed of men iuterested in the grain acd produce bus would be better ablo to conduct the affairs of an open board. Then, too, the present board of trade has its officers and committees and boards of arbitration alveady appointed for the and mone of them are grain men. It is almost a necessity that some of these positions should be filed by grain men, as for example the board of arbitration, In gran deals disputes and misunderstandin tween buyers and sellors aro unavoidablo, and wheu they do oceur it is very essential that they should be aroitrated by grain men Who ara familiar with all the ins and outs of the business, nother reason for desiring a separate organization from the preseut board of trade is that a great many smaller dealers would like to avail themselves of the benctits of the open board who would not feel like paying £500 for tho privilege. The &rain men are all ve enthusiastic on the subject of a grain market in Omaha and they beliove that the organization of the grain and produce exchange will further the matter very materially, The books were open for stoc! subscrip- tlons for a short time yesterday, andalthoagh the subject had not béen advertised and the majority of those who would be likely to sign did not kuow thatsucha thing as the ex- change had even been proposed, the stock subscriptions came pouring = in at a lively rate. The promoters of the entorprise expressed thomselves as moro than pleased with the results, A feature which they re- zard as ospecially encouraging is tne’ fact that the heaviest dealers, both buyers and sellers, ave coming to the front and aro tak- ing so much interest in the organization of an Spen bourd, The following well known busi- ness men subscribed for stock yesterday f- ternon Claric Woodman, F\, E.
