George Francls Teain, who has done more in the past twenty-five years to advertise Omaha than any other man, and who is just starting out on his fourth globe trotting ex- pedition, will lecture at the Boyd this even- ing. He will speak chfofly of his first and best love, “Omaba,” and of his success of his booming her around the world. Mr, Train has always been a warm friend of this city, and is personally acquainted with all the older citizens, The time was in days gone by when Mr. Train practically owned Omaha, and no one acquainted with the facts disputed his claims of hayiag built the city. He organized the Credit Mobilier and Credit Foncier, and was the owner of Credit Foncier 8 ddition, to which he still lays some claim. although he was compelled to relinquish tho property before the time came, which his wonderful foresight detected, when 1t would be worth millions of dollars as it is today. In those days, and in fact until recent yoars, the whole of that tract which now comprises the southeast guarter of the city was known as “Traintown,” and no one thought of call- ing it anything else, Yesterdny afternoon Colonel William A. Paxton telegraphied from Chicagzo that Mr. Train was willing to lecture here this even- ing if arrangements could be m mittee, consisting of Dr. G. M. Hitchcock, Max Mever, George Bemis, . Rosewater and Mayor Cushing, last evening telegraphed a formal mvitation to him at Chicago to lecture at the Boyd, which was at once engaged for that purpose. Mr. Train will arrive in the city at 10 o'clock this morning via the Northwestern rnd will be reccived by a committee of prom- inent citizens. He will speak of his efforts in booming Omuha for the vast thirty years, particularly during his three previous trips around the world and of the part he took at the timo the terminus of the Union Pacific was fixed at Omaha. He will also talk of the Italian incident, of the collapse of the billion- aives, of Juy Gould and his millions and a thousaud other subjects which have made him famous. . Ir. Train's wonderful ability as a taker known to the citizens of Omaha. He can crowd more facts into a five minutes’ talk than any other t. The real estat spirit of the oceasion, and wi ture today as far as possible. The real e men realize that it is to the interest of Omaka to have Mr. Train talk of her throughout his tour of the globe. It is said that President Hartmian and a committee of the exchange will join the reception committee and show mr. Train the advancement Omaha has made since his last visit here three or four years ago. Dr. Miller will probably introduce Mr. Train to his Omaha audience and Mayor Cushing and a number of other leading citi- zens will occupy seats on the stage of the Boyd throughout the lecture, Mr, Train is particularly fond of children and a cordial invitation is extended o them to be present, accompanied by their parents. They will bo admitted to any part of the housa for 10 cents. L No. T, s loins N & ox tuils SANITARY MATIERS, What the New Board of Health Talked About., The first meeting of the new board of health, as created under the amended charter, was held in the rooms of the fire and police commission yesterday. The only absentee was Mr. Burdish, those present being Mayor Cushing, Chief Seavey, Sanitary Commissioner Morrissey, Health Commissioner Gapen and Councilman Blumer, Health Commissioner Gapen reported 103 cases of contagious diseases during the mouth and twenty-seven deaths from the same, The rules governing contagious diseases under the old board were adopted, with the exception that the quarantine in cases of diphtheria was extended from one to two weels after the recovery of the patient. The question of rules of sanitation next came up, and Mr. Morrissey suggested thut the present ordinances touching on that sub- Ject were all right to work on until new rules could be drawn up and adopted. The mayor appointed Messrs. Seavey, Gapen and Blumer as a committee on rules, and Mor- rissey’s resolution to hung on to the present rules until the committee reports was adopted. Chief Seavey wanted Mr. Specht, chairman of the council committee on police, to com e before the board and submit the ordinances e has prepared to govern the sanitary con- dition of the city. Mr. Morrissey said he had examined theso ordinances aud didn’t belieye one of thew would hold water. He further thought that the board of health under the new charter was similar to the fire and police commissic and ull ordinances governing it should nate in the body itself. The samitary com- missioner held that the council could not nuale rules for the board, although the coun- cil must_approve all rules adopted by board. He said he supposed Specht's ordi- nances would pass, and he wanted the mayor instructed to have them referred to the city attorney to sce whether or not they would stand, On motion of Chief Seavey tho board de- cided to meet the first and third Monday of cach month during the summer, They Got it of ~ourse. Mr, Eagan is at present livingiin St. Louis, where he is working at his trade. The story of his mis- fortune is as follows: On the afternoon of February 24 Mrs, Eagan, dressed only in a house wrapper and a light shawl over hor head, left home to visit some friends mear by, Since that time nothwg has beem heard of her. About 6 p.m on the day in question Mr. Eagan went home from his work, and finding his wife gone, thought nothing of the matter. After waiting several hours he went to the poiice station, expecting to find that some accident bad happened to his wife, The police knew nothing of the missing woman. All that night and for days after- ward the distracted husband hunted for his ife, but no trace could be found of her. . Eagan took nothing with her whe g home, as all her clothing and jewelry were found in their accustomed places, For over a year Mrs. Eagan had been under treat- ment for a norvous disease, and the only thery which can be advanced is that, becom- ing distracted, sho took her own life, Mr. and Mrs, Eagan had {always lived hap- pily together, and the young husband is com- pletely prostrated over the loss of his wife.
