The maw feature of the day’s performance was the introduc- tion of the testimony in bebalf of the city. If all the things ure true that were told as true by the witnesses, Krueger must be & very bad citizen. Among the witnesses were Mrs. Hali, the matron at the Woman’s Chris- tian hospital. She testitied that Mrs. Krueger was ordered brought to the hospital by ber physicisu some ume before her death. When she had been brought there she was in @ horrible condition, as she had evidentiy boen neglected in the most brutal manver by her busband. She saia that she was in such a filthy condition that it was three days before she could be made pre- sentable. Several ladies who had called upon the woman at her own house corrob- orated the watron’s statement as far as ber condition was concerned. Dr. A. B. Hanchett had sttended the woman in her lust illness, and had ordered ber removed from her home, as it was no fit place for a human being to dwell 1n. A number of physicians were put upon the stand to testify to the probable cause of her death. It uppesred that her disease took on a tuberculous form, and this, it was said might bave caused her death independently of all other cuuses. Several of the witnesses also stated that the general neglect of the busband no doybt had & great deelto ao with hasteuing ber death. Oue interesting feature of the aftornoon’s testimony was & fact which was gotten out of the plaintiff himself, by the city attorney, in spite of the earnest protestations of the at- torney for the plaintiff. That fact was thet Krueger had married 8 secoud time within four months after his wife's death. Iu the opinion of the city attorney, that did not suow that thé company of the first wife was s0 indispensable to the plakutifl's happiness a8 10 be worth §10,000 to him. It went, how- ever. At the time of adjournment the testimony on the side of the city was nearly all in. and all thut now remains is the testimony of one ‘s Case In dist was oc or two witnesses that may possibly be intr duced, and the arguments of the attorneys. The case will probably be submitted to the jury before this noon. e The Boston Store, Council Bluffs, will close hereafter ut 6 0'clock Tuesdays, Wednesdays Thursdays sud Friday evenings.
