The legal squabble as to the ownership of the diamonds found in the posession of « man named Dye or Dyre when arrested by the Omaha police a few days ago, is still on. Dye was arvested in Omaba for some minor offence, and when searched a valuable ladie's set of diamonds was foundin his pockets, consisting of earrings and pin, Dye claimed that he found them while working like Weatherby in this city, and that were {ound s t closet in steble on Broadway, The diumonds were evidently stolen, but there was no evidence to show that Dye was the thief, but oh the contrary lie was vouched for very strongly by several ol his former em- ployes in this city, among them Mr. Weath- erby. Chief of Police Carey went over to Omaha and had the man veleased and the diumonds turned over to him with the inten- tion of holding them here until their owner could be found. A Saloon Burglarized, A saloon connocted with the Colorado house on Lower Broadway was entered by burglars on Sunday night and a quantity of the best goods in the shop carried away. An entrance was effected by cutting out a glass in arear window that is completely screened trom ob- servation of any person on the streets, A quantity of the best wines acd cigars in the saloon was taken und the cash drawer was fuspected. The burglary is thought to have been com- mitted by some persou well acquainted with the place, and knew just where the tine goods were kept. The saloon is owned by H. Brugman. Harris and Lee, the gencral mana- gers of the Towa fuel and power company, were present in the ofice of Arehitects Bell & Berlinghoff yesterday when the bids for the erection of the company’s building to house their plant in this city were opened. There were several bidde all Council Bluffs men. Bids were reccived separately for the brick and stone work, carpentry and iron work. When they were opened and compared it was found that therewas but a trifle differ- ence between the propositions of Weaver and Struub for the brick and stone work, and it was decided to let these twocontractors meet at the office today and settle the matter be- tween them, both bids being acceptable to the company. J. A, Murphy was the lowest bidder for the carpenter work and was awarded the contrac The Ogden iron works was awarded the contract for the iron (russes and other heavy iron work required. B. Grahl got the contract for the galvanized iron and work and the iron roof. The contractors will today be notified to file their bonds and be prepared to commence work at once. The buildings will be erected on the vacant lots lying west of the Northwestern depot. They will be absolutely fire-proof, the only wood used in the entire structure being in the doors and window frames. It will be a somewhat imposing but odd looking building, having neither chimneys or smokestacks. The retorts will resemble blast furnaces minus the escape at the top. Joe Lockwood and His Pal Fall Into the Officer's Clutches. Oficer Hudson made a very important catch last night about 9 o'clock.
