J. Stewart of Nasbville, Teon. The crime for which Brame must answer is the shooting of J. H. Lemon, a passenger conductor on the Louisville & Nashville rail- road, at Baker's Station, Tenn., on Septem- ber 11, 1889, The shooting was entirely un- provoked, and the Louisville & Nashville company has spent thousands of dollars in an effory to capture the assassin. The affaic caused the mobt intense excitement et the time, and Chief Detective Stewart was detailed to run the murderer down. Mr. Stewart at once or ganized a large posse of men who scoured the country for their man, but all to no purpose. Bloodhounds were pressed into service, but no trace of Brame could be found. This method of trailing the fugitive then abandoned and Detective Stewart adopted a new mode of procedure. Certain facts which cama into his possession induced him to believe that Brame had come to Ne- braska, and by meats of intercepted aud decoy lettors locatad him at Florence, where he was living under the ussumed name of Joho Q. Thompson.
