Lawyers Hitt aud Aléex Green were on triul in the police court yesterday afternoon charged with embezzlement aod larceny as bailees. The testimony showed that Hitt and Green had been retained by Storan for $20, 'Che charge against Storan was receiv- ing stolen property. A continuance was agreed upon in Storan’s case and he wanted to get out on bail. Hiwt and Green knew how to get him out, but it took collateral. Storan’ toen signed over a certificato of de- posit on the Omaha National bavk for $145 and also gave a mortgage on his horse and wagon for $100more. Bail was then secured by the lawyers, The money and mortgage were held by the attorns until the case was disposed of and Storan was discharged. RELIEVING INDIGENT SOLDIERS, The New State Law Now in Effect in Nebraska. The act passed by the last legpislature to provide for the relief of union soldiers, sail- ors and the indigent wives, widows and minor children of indigent or deceased union soldiers, sailors and marines is pow in ef- fect. The law autborizes the board of county commissioners to levy a tax not exceeding 3-10 of a mill' on the taxuble property of the county, to be collected with other taxes, for the purpose of creating a fund for the relief and for funeral expenses of honorably discharged indigent union sol diers sud the indigent widows or wives and minor children under sixteen years of age of such soldiers, sailors or mariners.
