I know a young follow who was very sweot on a Scoteh spinster, says o writer in the San Francisco Chronicle. She was & wealthy Scoteh spinster, but if there is a kind of woman who must be loved oconomically, and for hersolf alone, it1sa Scotch spinster. Scotch spinstors are warranted to make good wives all the time, It is awfully hard to be untrue to a Scotch woman., Sheo makes you so very comfortable &nd holds you to her, not so much for your heart as by your bank account. She doesn’t want new bounets; sho israther liable to object even to ur having & new hat until the old one is quite worn out. A scotch wife can keep hoer hus- band noat and trim, and herself and her children as well, at a smaller ox= pense than any other. She doesn’t want diamona earrings for her birth= day. All you have todo is to show hor your bank-book and kiss her and tell her you owe the big balance to her, and 8he is quite satisfied. ] This young fellow did not understand the Scotch spinster, and when ho thougnt to please her he sent her a lov and expensive baskey of flowers, Ho went up to recoive her thunks and smiles, and ho was quita knocked - over when she told him he hadn’t a big enough salary to waste in buying flow= ers for her or anybody else, and she was sorry to see ho was so extravagant, because otherwise he was ‘‘a vern plensin’ young man.” e lied himseif back into her good graces by saying he had got tho flowers for nothing, and he thought he could not make better use of them. Sho smiled graciously, and snid: ‘iSeoin’ they did na cost youanything, it’s a great compliment.” She was-a woman after all. Prberite ™ ity Inflammation of the Kidneys. R. C. Harrls, Bazaar, Chase Co., Kausas, writes: I have been afilicted with chronio inflammation of the kidneys. 1 suffered so much pain that 1 could not lie on my buok or lean back against a chair. My water also contalnea a chalky sediment. I tried many remedies, but could get no relief. Ithon took two Allcock’s Plasters, and put one over each kianey, making them meet on my back-bone. These plasters, strange as it may seem, cured mo in a week. All soreness was gone, and my urine was natural, -~ THEY HAD NEVER MET., Amusing First Meeting of Mrs, Cleves land and Mrs. Hayes, At the time of the centennial cere- monies in New York, Mrs. Hayes and some friends occupied one box and Mrs. Cleveland and friends another not yery distant, says the Chicago Times, Col- onel Corbin, a mutual friend, after chatting a few minutes with Murs. Hayes, went into the box occupied: by the Cloveland party. Mrs. Cleveland asked who the lady in the other box was, and on_being informed, declared that she had long desired to meet.her predecessor in the white house—in act, she said, there was no lady in the country she more desired to meet than Mrs. Hayes. Colonel Corbin suggested that as Mrs. Cloveland was the vounger lady, and as Mrs. Hayes was ouly a few steps away, there would be no impropriety in Mrs, Cleveland calling on Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Clevelund coincided with the views of the colonel, and taking his arm was soon in Mrs. Hayes’ box. She was in- troduced in tho pidst of considerible confusion, but met with a very cordial reception. After a pleasant chat with Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Cieveland was es- corted to her own box, and Colonel Corbin returned to the Hayes box. Mrs. Hayes exvressed her gratifien- tion at meeting so charming a lady, but asked, ‘Who is sha? I did nothear the name, but I think I have never met any one who impressed me moro pleas- antly.” The colonel was so takoen by surprise that he stood at attention for nearly ten scconds. Then he explained that the lady was Mrs. Cleveland. Mrs. Hayes was then as much surprised as the colonel had been, and after expressing her chagrin she procecded to sny that if there was one woman in the country that she wanted to mect more than an other, that woman was Mrs, Clnvclmu{ The colonel saw that advance was bet- ter than retreat, and he submitted his report to the effect that while the caso was nov covered by the articles of war or the army regulations, he felt that he would not exceed the limitations of sol- dierly duty if he volunteored: to escort Mprs. Hayes to Mrs. Cleveland’s box. Mrs. Hayes approved the report, and on reaching Muvs. Cleveland’s box made ex- plamtions in such a way as to complote- 1y win the heart of her successor in the white house. ——— B. 0. An extraordinary scene occurred at Bolton-on-Dearne, a collier village in Yorkshire, on Wednesday, says the Lon- don Star. The old burial ground being full, a dispute arose as to where the new burial ground should be. The vicar, the Rev. Edward Spencer, and the wardens, decided on a pieco of land which was duly inspected and laid out. Some of the parvishoners, however, were of the opinion that the ground was wet, and although it was drained, they still agitated. , On Wednesduy the body of the viear’s child was the first interment. ‘Whilstthe sexton was digging the grave some 200 people assembled, and it was feared that some disturbance would take plu A grave which had provi- ously been laid out was not proceeded with on nceount of the objection of gome of the ratepayers that it was not 100 yards from adwelling house. The crowd hooted the procession as it went from the church 1o the graveside, where a small crowd had assembled, who jeered and luughed during tho seevico, A farnier made a disturbance outside the ground, on o piece of adjoining land, He continued to walk around the pal- ings whilst theservice was proceeding, beating an old tin can with o stick aod singing pothouse songs. 0 serious disturbance in the way of interfering practically with the service was, how- ever, attompted. lutense excitement prevails in the neighborhood, A burial club has been formed in the puish, of { which a locul publican is treasurer. Some 120 members have joined the club, which provides money to any of it nbers to bury their friends 1n other ishos, Further trouble 18 fonrods s meetings are being held and ad- ssed by those in opposition to the Every woman in Omaha—we say women beeause men are usually . 100 busy to look after such smuall matters— should insist on the head of the house procuring some reliable medicine for use in case of a sudden avtack of colic or cholgra morbus in the night during the summer, It is not pleasant to hunt up a physician after miduight, nor to go down town and reute out a druggist at that hour, Take our adviceand proeure a 25 or bl-cent bottle of Chamberlain's | Colic, Cholers and Diarrhea Remedy.
