The season at Manawa was slow in getting verything scemed to conspire e weather was horrible for weeks, Rain and mud continued. The hotel folks, the boat owners, and bath keepers waited patiently and kept paying out hard cash for expenses, with only drib- lets coming in. Thursday evening about twenty couples came over in a party, and after having great sport at the beach, indulged in a supper and a little hop, returning home on the late even- ing tram, The same evening the young ladies of the X. Y. Z. club of this city were at the hotel Tor & merry-making, and’ remained wll night. The crowd continues to comwe and go, some- times much larger than at others. Ther every reason to believe that the resort will continue to increaso in popularvity. About a year ago Mr, Fulton, a member of thie Boston Tea company, mis- trusted that one of the clerks by the name of James Lee was robbing the firm, and he so *aformed his parther, Mr. Richmond, who Scouted the the idea. Matters: went along until a short time ago, when Mr. Fulfon would - stand it 1o longer and de- clared that something st be done. Yesterday afternoon a lively runaway oc- curred in the lower part of the city. The driver of a dirt wagons becoming onraged at liis mules because of their inability to pall their load, beat them severely. The mules resented the treatment, and breaking the wagou in balf started at a lively spead across the country. They headed for a freight train which was then puliing out. Swerving in their course they pulled up along side the train, The train hud the pole and held its position around 1o the buck stretch, Here the mules pushed their noses ahead and attempted to cut the train put of its position.
