THE ROAD TO THE NORTHWEST. What Leading Oitizens Would For Such a Line. The discussion which has been going on for some weeks past regarding the project of a railroad to the northwest scems to be at- tended with promising results. At least it is civing respectful attention from wealthy, energetic and reliable citizens. A meoting of these was held last. Saturday to talk ov the project among those present being Messrs, Shelton. Kountze, Barker, Poppleton, Woolworth, Hiteh- cock aud others, The question was discussed and finally the sense of the mecting was taken thai if a railroad were bult with the proper safe-guards,which would be tribu 10 this city and driin the most desirable sec tion of the ate which is not now supplied with railroads, those present would subscribe in the aggregate 2500,000. The plan of a road to the northwest has not been abandoned and it is quite likely, now, that some gentlemen who have before kept aloof from the enterprise, are taking an interest in the same, the road will be built. The county w illbe éxpected to aid liberally in the undertaking, because the present aim of the projectors is to make the road a home organization.
