A Variety of Happenings in the Bluffs —The City Council—Personals and Quick Told Bits of News. Waxing Warm For Saloons. The case of Felling, the Des Moines de- tective charged with seduction and person ating an officer by the Mayne woman as stated in yesterday's Bee, is attracting con- siderablo attention. A BEE reporter yester- day called upon Colonel L. W. Tulleys, pres- 1dent of the law and grder league, and asked that gentloman whether or not Felling was 16 employ of that organization. He stated that Felling was in their employ for the pur- pose of obtaming evidence against the sa- loon men and had been workiug for them for about two weeks. He expressed the belief that the accusation brought against the man was the result of the work of the saloon kecpers, who have played similar tricks on previous occasions. One man was bought oft and then arrested for taking a bribe and con- fined in jail at Omaha until the adjonrnment of the term of court here, thus keeping}his testimony out of court. = Mr. Tulleys § that his confldence in Felling w and that he beheved that the detectivi come out all right. The temperance folks claim to have testimony against every saloon in the city, and - indisputable proof in several cases of ‘the violation of injunctions. s have been ready for some time, were held for trial until Judge term here, as the temperance peo- ple have more faith in securing a fair ruling court than under some of the other district judges. 1t is a well known fact that Judge Deemer is vel , so far as the mandates of the court are concerned, and is unusually severe in all cases of violations of injunctions, ¢ but little has been heard of the temperance people, so far as fighting the saloons is concerned, but this quiet was only the calm that precedes the storm, as the battle will be renewed next weck with increased vigor.
