Pittsburg Dispatch: Miss Pear] Prim whom everybody knows to be the most proper and precise tailor made beauty of western Pennsylvania, patent rights reserved, had a horrible adventure in church yesterday. ‘When she reached the church door a little late for the morning services, sho made the awful discovery that her pet pug dog “Peter” was at her heels, She was late, as 1 have said, and if she took *‘Peter” home it would be im- possible for her to return to church that morning, Her christianity was struuF enough to have made her resign herself to such solf-sacrifice; but she was wear- ing a new brown jacket of extraordinary and perplexing Persian beauty, and it she missed the morning service the best chance she wouldhave to exhibit it to all her friends would pass beyond her reach. So she picked up ‘‘Peter,” who, for a pug, it thin, and walked bravely up the aisle to the proper pew. She was con- scious of extra glances from the congre- gation, but she consoled hergelf by the thought that if she outraged provriety with the pug, her manly jacket in the latest fashion of the French capital thereby got more thorough recognition than it otherwise would have obtained. Besides, ‘“‘Peter” behaved splen— didly. He slept through the prayers, through the hymns and through the sermon. In fact, he slept as decorously as Deacon Smooth, under the gallery. Mrs. Prim, the mother of Miss Peurl, sat next “Peter To conceal the dog’s enco and insure his gooll behavior, Prim covered him up with her ter, which the heat of the church had obliged her to take off. As [ have said “Peter” slept under the ulster until the end of the benedice: tion. Ile was so quiet that both ladies forgot all about his existence, and when Mrs. Prim gathered up her ulster hur- riedly, for she wanted to get out of the church ahead of those detestable Smiffs, she jerked Peter onto the floor with considerable force. “Peter” gave a feurful howl and continued to yelp as he ran rapidly down the aisle, The congregation was at fivst alarmed, then amused, then angry, and Miss Prim was glad enough to gét herself and her Persian wrap out of sight. Last night there came from the pul- pit of this church a fierce denunciation of the frivolous habits of young women who carried their \\'Dl'bhilll of fushion go far as to bring their playthings and pets into the housc of worship. e What Melican Man Likes, Bow ob Jon—DBoned ducks’ foet boiled with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, cioyes and other spices.
