Joe Bacharach has moved into his new quarters, No. 416 Broadway. The Ogden iron works are rushed with business and have had to send away for extra help. Round trlr tickets are now being sold to Chicago for $14.50 good for the next thirty days. The dsughter of Walter N. Young was still alive yesterday and resting some- what easier. William Lew:s, voroprietor of Lewis’ hack line, got *‘done up’’ Saturday night, It appears that Lewis while on his way down Broadway near First street, was hailed by four young men wha wishea to be driven in Lewis’ hack to the dummy depot. It wasa little after 10 o'clock and they wished to get the 10.80 o'clock train, Lewis was not very anxious to take the job, as he wished to put his horses in the stables for the night, they having made several trips to Lake Manawa dur- ";f the day, and were tired out. He was fered a two-dollar Lil, so he consented. On arriving at their destination three of the crowd concluded they would not “‘put up” at all. Words finally led to blows, during which Lewis knocked the first agsailant down as he did the second one. An incident took place the other even- ing in front of the bath houses at Man- hattan beach which teaches the modest Iadies & lesson, Three young ladies too modest to put on bathing suits on ac- count of their briefness, concluded they'd shut off the view of the outside world by wearing mother hubbards. The loose gowns were of a very thin texture, some- thing on the mosquito netting order. Ira Higby has taken entire manage- ment of the Hotel Manawa under the proprietor, Frank Clark, while Dave Jearborn now superintends the cuiinary deopartment. The drivers of hacks and 'buses should not be allowed upon the lower veranda of the hotel. On the arrival of each dummy train from Omaha yesterday there were pas- sengers for Manawa. With the motor line in first class run- ning order, the guests at Hotel Manawa and visitors to Manhattan beach could hard'y be accommodated. As it is now, every conveyance is crowded. The colored waiters struck at the hotel on Saturday. Their places have been tilled with white help. There was a perfect stream of wagons and conveyances of all kinds on the road to the lake yesterday all day. ‘The water 1n the lake is falling slowly with the river, and shortly those who cunnot swim will be able to reach the life lines much to their satisfaction. The table de hote is not excelled in Iowa or Nebraska. The hotel could not accommodate all who wished rooms Saturday night. Many had to slecp on mattresses on the floor. Captain Messimer has resigned the captainoy of the Dodge Light guards, There has been some fecling of dissatis- faction concerning him, aud this has been growing. The chief trouble seems 1o have been a feeling that he was not competent enough as a drill-master, to meet the high expectations feit by the boys when they selected him for the po- sition. The fecling was increased by the contest drill on the Fourth, and it was claimed that many mistakes were caused br him, thus lessening the company's nces of winning one of the higher priz His resignation has been ac- cepted.
