Chu-‘u DIGNATION ME Citizens and Taxpayers Wish to Dis- cuse the Proposed Charter, The course which has been parsned by the railroad managers in their attempt to defeat the new city charter because it contains provisions which compel them to pay taxes on real estate is causing a great d The railroad strikers have ropresentations procured from a large number of business men asking them to sustain an effort to have this taxation clanse_striken out of the proposed charter. Nearly all the signers express themsolves as decidedly in favor of equal taxstion on all classes of prop erty incinding that of the —ral- roads, and they feel indignant that they have been imposed upon. The ‘feat of the charter is regarded by all classes as a_ very serious blow at the prosperity of Omaha, It would set back the boom that is now under headway and throw a damper upon many projects on which Omaba depends for her future growth, It would seriously imperil the anitary condition of the city by vrevent- ing the re-location and enlargement of the waterworks. The water supply is now contaminated by the surface drainage and sewage that go in th river above the present pumping ground. The malara-breeding materials which contaminatethe presentsupply ar r'\piilly increasing through the constantly grow- ing settlement north of the present works. Again, the defeat of the charter would prevent the purchase of grounds for parks and the estabhshmont of boule- \'m!-X It would leave Omaha for three ears with the present wretched police System; prevent the ereetion of the city hall, market houses and other needed buitdings—and would curtail the income of the city so that public improvements would be at a standstill. This state of facts has ed much feeling, A mnss meeting of citizens and taxpayers is gencrally talked of, and will probably be ealled for b y or Sat- day night. under false signatures POLICKE COURY Pather and His Son— Notes, A Thieving and we telease them, judge, me chindren are starving homes 1 thing in the house to cat.” This plea was direeted at Judge Sten- berg yesterday morning by Mrs, Krause, the wife of a man named John Kra s who with his son Edward, had been arres- ted for steaiing hay from Her's distillery barns. Henry Jackson and Frank Smith, two young boys who were arrested by the police Tuesday were sent up by Judge enberg for thirty days in the county jail. They were nabbed in a house of ill- fame by Oflicers Mostyn and O’Grady A lot of clry, supposed to be stoleu, was found in their possession, They had tried to dispose of it during the day. On Jackson's person was found a le from his gl in Kansas City, who re- marked that two warrants had been 1ssued against him for burglary and pa- thetically entreated him to keev out of harm’s way. Itis probable that the jew- elry in the possession of the young fel- lows was stolen. The Kansas City au- thorities will be notified of the ari of the supnosed erooks. Both of the prison- ers are under eighteen years of age. PAID WITH my ain't THANKS. A Fecble Reward for Twetve Hours Labor, William Nightingale, who occasion- ly does deteetive work by way of help- ing out the palice, 15 yesterdny a very much exasperated man, Hisstate of feel- ings was brought about in this way, A certain saloonkeeper in the Blufls, who shall be nameless, came over to Omaha, got on a spree and lost his watch. He reported the matter at police headqnar- ters and Nightingale, who was around at the time, ngreed to look up the lost tim picce, which the saloon kecper repre sentedl as vory yaluable He put in over twelve hours’ hard work on the ease, and finally succeeded in get- ting the wateh, The German came around the next morning. and Night- ingale gave him the wateh, expecting, of course, thut his labor would be rewarded. Instead of that, lm\wvn r, the saloon- keeper smiled Deamingly ‘on the detec- tive. and with a gentle”*“Thank you,” sailed away. Nightingale declares t hereafter he will demand pay in advane from a Council Bluffs man. Enjolning the Oity, In the district court Tuesdya W. F. Not until the discovery of Athlo- phoros had any remedy been found for either rheumatism, neuralgia of nervous headache, and they were generally con- ceded to be incurable, but Athophoros has been proved to be not only a certain cure for these diseases, in all their varied forms, but a safe remedy. If, in the use of Athophoros, the bowels are kept freely open, its suc cess is certan, and to aid this, Athlophoros Pills are recommended, which, while prov- ing the necessary cathartic, will be found to be a valuable aid to the action of the medicin . Athlophoros is no experiment, it has been tested and has proved its won- derful efficacy. The Athlophoros Pills were originally prepared as a remedy for use in connection with Athlophoros, “for rheumatism and neuralgia and kindred complaints. Used in connection with that remedy, they are a certain cure for either of these very com- mon and distressing diseases. They have also been found to be an invaluable remedy for any and all diseases arising from vitia ed blood or general debility. They ure e pecially valuable for nervous debility, blood poisoning, dyspepsia, distress after uung. headache, constipation, loss of appetite, and all stomach or liver troubles, For dis- casts of women they are invaluable.
