Court— IFROM THE REE'S L) As the eampaign draws near its close ftis safe to say that Lancaster county politicians, those who manage and manip- ulate, have not been so unduly exercised and anxious before in y The fact that Church Howe and his terrific record has been a dead weight upon the county republican ticket has been manifest from the start, but the whippers-in have given it out that, inasmuch as there is great danger if Howe is defeated that he will blot out the city of Lincoln ultogether, that the legislative candidates must do their utmost in congressional matters, and it is asserted that the municipal au- thorities of thewity are using their politi- cal power to whip in every class who revolt against supporting the man who ways had his hand in their pockets when the legislature was in session. This explains why some of the sporting fi ternity that have been bled by Howe's gambling bills in the past are supporting him at present. The arm of the munici- pality, with Striker C. C. Burr at the head, could make it warm for them if they failed to come to time and help foist Howe upon the First district. This will do for a sample of the whipping in process, now being worked for all it is worth, and if any one thinks that the powers are not putting in ry hour in the day here to hold a de cent majority in Lancaster for Howe they want to come down and hear the eries of pain that come from the Journal office, sec Kennard fly around and peep in under the covers of the city muniei- pality at the mayor of the town.
