Feb, 24.—|Special Telegram.) Wiear—Wheat opened this morning with the local scalping crowd bearish. May sold down from 865¢¢ to 855c before 12 o'clock, Wwith occasional reactions, the report about 11 o'clock that five boats had been taken in New York having quite a bracing effect, ‘The bull element received quite a severe set back, however, the exchange being sudd enly flooded with dispatehes from New York, all couched in the same language, to the effeet that the twenty-one boat loads bought for export yesterday by Nightingale had been ordered resold at any vrice, and that the market there had broken on the news going out. That way of doing business was denounced s very reprehensible by the crowd, and free selling followed. Not a few, however, expressed the belief that the pretended order to sell was a trick to break the market to enable exporters to buy more property at cheaper figures, 1t was the prevalence of this dount as to the location of the little joker that gave sustaining power to the market. It was noticed that there was good| buying by the strong speculas tive and connmission houses all through the day, and the floor broke and seemed to have plenty to do, The general distrust with which the Nightingale reselling intelligence was received deepened, and the mark e ened, the close for May being S6%;¢, a recov- ery from the bottom of 5e. Cables closea dull, and according to most of the private cables weak, though there was a conflict of testimony on that point. MiNonr GrarNs—Corn and oats were dull and without change in prices or conditions. ProvistoNs—Provisions were sluggishand the market had a suggestion of languid weakness about it. Trading was too light, lowever, to develop drift citlier way, and the price of tho product was without important fuctuation, ArTERN0ON BoARD—Wheat was stronger on the afternoon board until nearly the clos May selling up to $6%@s6ife, from which point the market rapidly recoded to Soige, where it rested at the close.
