It Is to be hoped that such is the case, and the fact thnt a prominent Omaha man fs reported to be joined with some Councll Bluffs par- tles In this move in regard to redeeming thesa lots, Is a pretty good eized straw. There has beon a great change in the sentiment of the Councl Bluffs business men on the brldge question with- in the pat two years. Many are now anxlous bave such a bridge built, and it s belleved that it will help this clly in very many ways. It has been eald that the reason that the matter has tean lylng dormant has been because of the difficulty, in the general depreeslon and uncertainty, In eelling bonde, and the difficulty of getting cap- itallsts to Invest In the enterprise. It has slso been whiepered that the sllence was due to the fact that those having the enterprite In hand want to get hold of a Jarge amount of bottom praperly, quletly aud cheaply, g0 ss to be able to have a large land syndicate, and make enough profit on the advance snd the ealo of property, to help greatly in the bullding of the proposed bridge. Itis well known that the moment it is decided that there 1s to be such a bridge, prop- erty which now has but a nominal price will jump right up. It looks now as if there was just such a qulet getting hold of land going on, and it s talked that some bright day, not far in the fature, the people will wake up to find that the brldge Is golng to be bullt in a hurry. Saturday morning the firat open revolt was made. The prison bad eaten their breakfast and Jailer Shontz ordered them to go Into thelr cells, but they absolutely refused to comply. They clalmed that they could not stand the cloee confinement, although the fact ls that the cells are iry and light as the larger room, They would not budge, as the great cylinder was moved around, and each cell opened for them to step in, Sheriff Galttar was called In, and Supervisor A, 0. Graham appeared, some of the prisoners wanticg to lay their grievance before the county board, hoping to get rellef from the supervisors, It was decided that the prlsoners must submit to belng locked In seperate cells, or at most two in a cell, and they were glven their cholce between staying in the exerclse room and llving on bread and water or golrg to thelr cel plied but one, and he was end threatening that he was sentenced to a bread and water dlet for five da; Yesterday mornlog thers protest, and fora time it 1 there would be trouble, but as the cells were opened one at a time and the prisoners called for, they submitted and marched in, except one, who talked very ugly, but as he was left alone In the ex- erclee room, and all the others were safe- ly locked up, Jaller 8hontz promptly told him that he would come in there with a billy and force him to go tuto his cell, un- less he ohcss to march in pesce- fully, and the prisoner eeeinz how use- less it wes to hold cut for a contest, grumblingly submitted.
