Thursday evening his attorneys, Anderson and George Shlelds, procured a wrlt of habeas corpus for his release, In the coun- ty court, Linde was brought down from the post and lodged in the county jall, and yesterday his case came up In the county court. By consent, however, it was postponed uatil 10 o'clock this morning. The counsel for the prisoner, It s understood, claim that Linde is Insane and frresponsible for his acta and willargue for hls] release on those grounds. The history of his case as gained from Judge Anderson Is certalnly rather carlous. 1t meems that Linde is the son of wealthy and respectable parents In COopenhagen, Denmark. Since early childhcod he hss manifested signs of brain-weakness, which in late years de- veloped Into posltive Insanity. hen he was 10 years old his folks declded to place him In an tnsane asylum. Before they could accomplish this step, however, Theodore, who had In all probabliity be- come apprised of thescheme, fled from Denmark and took passage in a steamer for Americs, of wgleh he had vague vislons as & “‘land of promise.” Arriving in this country In the laiter part of 1881, he knocked about the country from place to place, doing odd jobs of work, He fnally entered the navy while yet a minor and served the United Statea in tie position of a cadot sailor about nine months, when he left without taking the necessary formal ateps. In the meantime his anxlous relatives in Copenhagen had been sending letters to all parts of America, hoping to galn some trace of the lost heir. Finally one of these letters fell luto the hands of a Mr. Willlam Lucke, liviog In this ocity, who succeeded inlocatieg Linde, and se- cured him a position in Omal Latterly he has been a bsrtender at the Planters House, and hes borne a good reputation for sobrlety and reliabllity, though at times he has exhiblted decided symptoms of cran kiness. A few days ago a man by the nams of Hans Thislgoard, who had become spprised of the secret of | Lunds’s life, became Indfgnant on ac- | count of some fancied grievance and be- trayed him to the milltary authoritles. Judge Anderson clalms he is in posses- slon of ample correspondence from rela- tives in the old country to show that the young man s demented. Every effort will bs made to rescae him from the fate of a deaerter’s prison. MILITARY MATTERS3.
