As eppeared In the Bee at the time of the robbery, Mary French was glven lodging at the boarding house of D. J. Keatley, and was remanded to jall to await sentence, Yesterday ferenoon a young man named Al Desmant was up before Judge Aylesworth charged with the larceny of a twenty dollar gold plece from the house A 1t 1s of Mr. Rayer, on Harrlson street. recited that Desmant boarded at the house when Mrs. Rayer was Mrs, Mc- Carlister, and was correspondingly famlllar with the house. The charge is that he came to the house on Wednes- day, and while there took the money. He then hired a livery rlg and went over to Omaha, where it is asserted he spent it on rlotous livlng and riotous girls. He returned to this city yesterday forenoon and was nabbed by the police. He and bis attorney were desirous of settling the matter with Mr. and Mrs, Rayer, and seemed about to be succes:ful, when Proeecuting Attorney Keatloy informed the court that his sense of duty would not permit him to consent to a settlement, and he would insist on a trial, He sald if this had been the first offense he would not havo objected to a settle- ment, but in prevlous cases this young man had promised to settle and to reform and he had done neither. The case was contlnued untll next Monday at 2 p. m. Indefanlt of $300 ball young Desmont was sent to jail. B. B. Frainey, aud Mayor W. R. Vaughan, who are going east on business, Traveling Auditor Marshall, of the Chi- cago, Rock Island & Pacific road, made an official visit here yesterday and checked up the books of Cashier Joe Roff.
