About two han. dred portfolios are in, and so far Buffalo county heads the llst with the largest number of portfolios In, As yet the clt; of Lincoln has returned none whicl were approved. There seems to be con- slderable dissatisfaction among a large portionof the enumerators as the pay is so meagre that even in good localitles a good man cannot make to exceed thirty or thirty-five dollars, and the conse- qente ls, that the entire census work s lable to be serlously crippled and fall short of what it was Intended to be, from the fect that in every phase of It the compensation s insufficlent to make a firat-olass job of 1t; besldes, the time al- lowed to cump!ata the work la not enough. There ars 812 enumerators and the law only makes provisions for fifteen clerks, in thirty days, to revise, complle and copy a large portlon of the work done by the small army of enumerators. Brad P. Cook, late adjutant general of the depntmant of Nebraeka, grand army of the republic, is the reciplent of a handsome badge from the woman’s relief corpee of this department. The badge is the shape of the slxth corpse badge, or & Greek cross. The centre piece fs gold with the grand army of the republlc monogram, attached with red silk to a gold bn upon which is tho word ‘“‘hon- orary” in blue enamel. The following is an extract from the letter accompanying the prerent: *‘I send you an honorary badge. Your past devotion to all the best Interests of the order which has made you first hon- orary member In our depar tment, entitles you to a badge far more costly and ele- gant than the cne sent. * * * From your Nebraska woman's relief corps, slsters n F., C. and L., pr.” Lovrse M.
