OPENING UP. The Gambling Houses Unlocking the Doors and Proceeding to Business, Arrangements have been made for opening up the gambling houees again. Thess houses have been ostensibly olosed for some tlme, though there have been quiet little games of poker golng on most of the time. It is now proposed to return to the “‘good old times,” when It was free-for-all and go.as-you.please. So long as there {s & clty here, there will doubtless bs gambling of some eort and the cltizens are prepared to submit to the inevitable, but there will be a great howl ralsed on all sides if Council Bloffs is agaln to be disgaaced by such open, ubrestralned, skinnlng, cheeky games, as have before been al- lowed to run here under the name of gambling. The most conservative citi- zons will not submit to the gambling houses running as they have run in the past, giving to this clty the reputation of robbing the workmen and children, Pluggers and ropers-in have found occu- pation here, and that sort of business will not be submitted to any longer. If there is any gambling it must be con- fined to sporting men, and not thrown open to ensnare the man who bay worked hard for a few dollars and the boy who h it begun to learn how to stand be- hi nc{' a counter. Such seems to be the feeling of the bueiness men, and they are | 11 Thesa who are bound to [ In earnest. gamble, and who are bound to run games, might as well take the warning, and so conduct themselves as to keep thelr busi- nets in the dark, and not attempt to parade 1t on the streete, and spend their time in roping in youngeters and drunken men with baits of promised chances to get a forlune by chancing a few pennles, —— Real Estate Transfers, The following are the tranefers of real estate as recorded In the office of the registrar, and reported to the BEk by A.
