A Model Young Man of Council Bluffs In Jail for Forgery. ult and D. 0. Holmeg, grand Robert J. Skiles, the yourg man ar- rested four or five weeks ago for forgery, was taken in again last night, on com- plaint of Willlam Slorrs, a stock man from Antelope county. While out through that part of the state last Docember, a8 travelling agent, soliclting buei: ness for the Home Fire in- surance company, Skiles lorged two orders, or notes, of $50 each, on Mr, Storrs, and sent them to the office of the company hers. At the same time he also forged notes on two other men, Kel- ler and Bill, of Anfelope, the entire amount of hls crooked transactions cover- ing about §300. Theso notes were alsc sent to the offica here, and in commia- sions for his work the company pald him $60. Yesterday Mr. Storrs arrlved in Omaha, and went direotly to the oftice of the Home company. While there, and talking about the notes, he AW Skiles paseiug alon on the opposite elde of the street, Imme- diately Storrs went to Justlice Andrew’s oftico and wora out a warcant for his arrest, It was placed in Ofticer;Whalan'a hsnde, who captured the young man aboat 10 o'clock last night and gave him quarters in tho city jall until this morn- ing., It seems that Nkilea has been con- sldered quite 8 model fellow bere. Hs owns a boot and shoe house in Council Bluffs, While getting the warrant for his arrest last evening & man was sent to watch him, He went directly to General Howard’s house and made a call there. On the way he met the Rev. Savage, and the watchman heard him siy that he expected to join the church at Council Blufis socn; also heard him invite the minister to come over next Sunday and enjoy communion services with him, He was not aware that an officer was then on his track to arrast him for forgery. MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE. Monsignor Capel's Second Leeture in Omaha, Monelgnor Capel, the distinguished divine and orator, lectured again last night, but this time at the oatholic cathe- dral, his subject belng, *‘Marrisge and Divorce,” The attendance was only falr, mnot what 1t ought to have been, because in in the subject chosen, Monsignor Capel is an eloquent and pleasing speaker, That the mar- riage ceremony is of divine origin, the speaker quoted that passage of scriptare which saye, “It Is not good for man to be alone,” as sn example by which to rove the assertion He held that the creator could have, had He so choeen, crested every man sepa- rately but He preferred to delegate that power unto man, therefore Incentive should be a meansof making doubly sacred the marrlage tle. The first idea of marriage s union of two persons, and to effect that unfon it ls necessary that there be mutual con. sent on the part of the contractiog pa ties. The speaker dwelt at conslderable length on the propriety and adaptability of making life contracts and showed that too many unfortunate marrisges are be ing made elther on account of persons| beauty or wealth, His remarks on di vorce, and the law which permits a sepa- ration of husband and wife, were llstene- to with a great deal of attentlon and In- ferest. Monginor Capel leaves thls mornlog for Denver. His stay in Omaha he says has been greatly eajoyed by him, e —e FIXING FOR A FAIR. Preliminary Steps Taken at a Meot- ing Held Last Night, The Omaha Fair and Exposition asso- oiation held a meeting last night at the Board of Trade roome, with Joseph Gar- nean, Jr., as presiding officer, and George E. Glbson, recretary. The attendance for such an enterprise, in which Omaba is certainly Interested, was rather small, but those who were prosent manifested a firm determination to proceed with the work of getting up a fair. As an encouraging Inducement it was stated that fully $600 has already been Subscribed towards a_fatr or exposition, %,d §500 more promised. The question f makiog such an undertaking success- ul, In _opposition to a state falr, wi ‘aised, but there seemed to be an almost unanimous opinion that, with £50,000 capltal stock as a basis to work on, and selection of dates that wlll not conflict with the state falr, there can be no question of success. After discossing the matter at some length, Mr. James McShane moved that n committee of thres men be appolnted to confer with the owners of the fair grounds and ascertain at what figuree they can elther be bought or leazed. That motion prevailed, but aunother motion, made by Mr. Shears, that thia committee be Instructed to solisit sub- scriptions to the stock and raiso the amount from $25,000, at which it stands now, to $50,000, the committee was {ncreased to five members, They were appolnted by the chair, and are as fol. lo 0.
