Stocks—The peaceful tenor of early cables and the advance in British coasols led to a depression in prices on the stock exchange this morning, the first sales being made at a decline of }@fc, and 1n early dealings scill lower prices were made for the active list, but the decline was quickly checked and there was o fractional rally befere the close of the firet half hour. The market then become less active and so continued during the greater part of the day. There was a slight yielding in quotations in the afternoon, There were not many stocks in which the extreme flucta- atlons amounted tc as much as 1 per oent, and only four show a decline of a8 much as 1 per cent. Compared with last evening, the active list is somewhat lower.
