THE LATE LYNCHING. Gi Judge Loofbourow Explains His Re- sponsibility, and How He Mot It, In answer to the blame that has heen placed upon Judge Loofhourow for grant- ing a change of venue In the case against the Jellerson murderars at Audubon, and aleo for his action in changing benckes with Jodge Henderson, Judge Loof- bourow has explalned to an Audubon correspondont that a weck ago last Mun- dsy, upon convening court at Nevada, Judge Henderson found motlons on file in some cases, asking a change of venue upon the ground of prejudice on the part of the judge. He then announced to the bar that he would try to get Judge Loofbourow to hold hls court this week, and on Thursday morning he an- nounced that Judge L. had con- sen ed to do 8o, and would open court Munday morning of last week, and the cbaoge was accordingly made. He says thaton Satarday morning he informad the district attorney and the counsel tor the d«fenee thathe had made up his mind to grant the change of venue and send the cases to Oars county, where his court convenes next Monday, and they could be trled without delay, and he would g0 anuounce upon convening of court that morning, but jast before court convened the counsel for the defense in- formed him that a large number of peo- ple would be in town that day, and that as penty of liquor could be had they feared for the ta‘ety of their clients in cate the ruling was then announced, and the judge, being convinced that there was some grouvds for alarm, consented that the announcement would ba de- ferred until Modday morning, of which the district attorney was duly advised. While the judge feels chagrined at the charges made, yet ha says in view of the teaglo culmination his only regret is that he did not make ture f the safcty of the criminals before lo® ving Audubon. ————— Beckman & Co., 525 Main street, will wash and ofl your harnras cheap now. et AFTER LERCHE.
