The docket of the county eourt was callad yosterdsy morning, There were thirty-eight casex on the docket. ~The insurance on the MeShane building, injured in the late Gruncbaum fire, hns not been satisfactorily adjusted yet . It was supposed that the oase of small- pox would be removed from St. Joseph's hospital to the pest house Monday, but it was not done. M¥, Dorsey B. Houck, who had charge of the pest houss during the last smallpox seige, Thursday made a proposition to the mayor and marshal in rogard to the case now at St. Joseph's hospltal. His proposition was about as follows: Ha agreed to go outto the pest house and care for the patient for the sum of $160 per month. He has an expross wagon and single harness, but no horse which he can use in the removal of the patlent. He proposed that the city should buy him a horse for $100 or $125, and that after his work is completed he will take the horse In part payment for his services as nurse. This proposition. the mayor could not aocept until he had a talk with the city ouncil and 80 the case remalns and the mallpox g‘nhnt is_still at St. Joseph’s hn:rihl. 'his 1s valuable time, and the patient should be removed without de- Iay. ‘The man who is now suffering from this disease is & brakeman of the Union Pacific company. He was taken sick at the Planter's hotel last Friday. On Saturday night he was removed to St. Jo- woph's_hospital and on Sunday morning when Dr. Galbralth visited the ward the patlent had broken out and the doctor at once pronounced it small pox, The clty physician was at once notified and went to the hospital and also pronounced it small pox. Other physiclans were called in and coincided with the above named physicians, The sick man was at once removed to a ward by himself and the bed-clothing burned, the furniture and wood-work thoroughly washed with car- bolic acid and water and large quantitles of sulphur burned about the place. The bedding at the Planter’s house was also burned and the place thoroughly disin. foected. The other patients and the at- tendants at the hospital have been vacein- ated and overy pracaution taken to stop the spread of the disense. At firat it was thought that it was only a case of varioloid but it is now known that it is a malignant case of small pox, It demands immediate attention and should have it. e ———— Smoke Seal of North Oarolina Tobac- 0. GONE TO WORK. The Strike Among the lIce Men Short Lived, o The strike among the ice men is at an end. Yesterday afternoon the striking workmen marched in a body to Guy & Fitoh's office on Fifteenth street, and demanded their pay, which was glven them. This morning some of the men were sick of their bargain and were ready to return to their work, but the ring leaders and some of the more stubborn ones n- sisted that they should not, and fora time there. was a_threatened war upon the ice. Guy & Fitch reported to Marshal ' Oummings and told him that they expected trouble and asked that he send a detachment of police to the scene and see that the riotous strikers did not interfere with such of his men as were ready and willing to return to their work. Roundsraan Whalen got together a gang of pollcemen and was just about to start for the river when word was re- celved that everything'was all right and that all hands had concluded to go to Cures, and it affords me pleasure to say timt I have never found anything which gave such immediate and permanent relief as Dr. Wil liah's Indian Ointment, For sale by all drug sta and mailed on receipt of price, B60c and 1.
