A Number of Oases which Attract the Attention of the Blue Coats, John MoDonald as & plain drunk was yesterday fined §7.60 while Ben Peterson who had an extra touch on his drunk had to pay fifty conts extra. Officer Dann picked up a fellow who gave his name as James Donahoo and who acted suspicious- ly. The fellow had some shirts and shoes and Dunn said he admitted that he had stolen, investigation. The fellow who gave his name as Boomer, and who has boen arrested for vagrancy and pleking pockts, is to have his _ hearing next Saturday afternoon. 0. DeWitt and Joe Briggs have been arrested on suspicion of having been connected with the disappearance of an overcoat and other articles from Mace Wise’s livery stable. The case was set- tled up before Justice Vaughan, and the matter dropped. A man giving his namo as W. Morrie, and apparently & little rattled mentally, was gathered in yestorday, he being found wandering about in a bewildered state, with no coat, or vest or shoes on. He said he came from York, Neb., and that he had been at Lincoln, where he had done something for which he had to jump the town, and wanted to go from here south, The man will be held here until more can be learned of him. Frank Smith, a light colored darkey, who trusts a good deal in his muscle, was before Justice Schurz yesterday for as- saulting Andy Neally, also colored. The assault appeared to have been unpro- voked and a fine of $5 and costs was im- posed. Smith, not being able to pay- was sent to jail. He is said to have been in a recent racket in Red Oak and to have successfully defeated the attempt of the officers to arrest him. He did not propose to submit here, but the officers were a little too brawny for him although he is about as large and stout as an ox. ‘Wm. Barrett Jones Moore and Frank Barnes, who were arrested for stealing a pair of shoes of George Blaxsim on Main street, were yesterday found gullty before .]qrtiee Schurz and given a short term in jail, L. Arnold, accused of picking pockets, was before Justice Vaughan yesterday. He was allowed to plead guilty to larceny and was sent to jail for twenty days. Arnold on the night of the great demo- cratic demonstration relieved J. R. Will- mott, of Boomer, of a pocket-book con- taining about 85, THE COMMERCIAL MEN. He is being held for further Preparations For Them Gathering Here Nex tWeel, The gathering of commercial men from all parts of the United States on next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday pro- mises to bean event of importance. Ar- rangements are being made for their re- ception on Monday. The ekating rink has been secured for their use and for the exhibition of their samples. The citizens who have carriages are expected to ten- der them for the use of the traveling men during their three days stay here. On Tueeday evening there will be a skating carnival, and on Wednesday evening a banquet. The family supposing it was the coal ordered, sot to work and packed it into the cellar, the mistress of the house remarking, “Now, 1 guess 1 won't have to keep fill- ing up the stove every five minutes.” And one of the boys, who was working like & Trojan, said, ‘“Why, this coal is not the least bit dirty, like some.” A big souttleful of the rock was taken into the kitchen and poured into the stove, but did not seem to kindle readily, The reason was understood when a little later the coal man arrived. The rock had to be carried out on the street again before the contrastor could be pacified.
