The scene of the late fierco encounter between the Wild Steer and “Dandy Dann, has been well pictured out by some ingenious artist on the wall of po lice headquarters, Some who recently visited the battle-field, say the ground still bears marks of the conflict, belng torn up asif by a plough hitched on runaway horses. The owner of the lots, whoso turt has been thus torn up is In vestigating to find out whether it was Dandy or the bull that caused the dam- age. Mrs, C. J. She ordered him to leave, and as he did not propose to go in any hurry, she stepped into another room, got a revolver, and gave him one shot, the ball taking effect in the man's log. Ho limped out faster than he walked in, It is said the same fellow had visited two or more other houses in that vicinity before, using in- sulting language and conducting himself in such a manner as to terrify the women, L. C. Taylor, who was arrested for assaulting a Mr, Boyington, had his ex- amination yesterday, and the testimony showed that, if guilty of anything, he must be guilty of atterpted robbery rath- er thanassault. Boyingtons statement was that while sleeping up stairs in Wisner's barn, he having charge of the stable, he was awakened by Taylor hitting him, and as ho jumped up Taylor followed the first blow with several others. Boyington in- quiring what it meant was told by Taylor that he wanted what money he had Boy- ington sald he had none, but finally admit- ted he had some down stalrs. His Arrest Here Yesterday, Yesterday William Gottbrecht, a mer- chant doing business at Croddyville, To- wa, was in the city and waa arrested on a warrant issued by Justice Schurz, based on a complaint madeby John Schoentgen, of the firm of Groneweg & Schoentgen, charging Gottbrecht with obtaining goods under false pretenses. 1t was claimed that Gottbrecht a few wecks ago wrote to Groneweg & Schoentgen ordering some goods That firm, instead of sending the goods wrote him, asking for a property statement. This was soon received, and in this jottbrecht claimed to be worth betweon £14,000 and £15,000. On the strength of these representations the firm sold him about §600 worth of goods. After- wards they had their suspicions aroused, and being satisfied by the result of furth- or inquires that he was not worth any such amount as represented, they asked him yesterday, he chancing to be in the city, to settle his account, He said he was not prepared to do so, and the firm was set for October 6th, and the bail fixed at 1,600, Last evening he left for home in custody of George Edgar, the understanding being that he could furnish bail on reaching home, and if so will be released. e — COMMEROIAL, OOUNOIL BLUFFS MARKET, Couxcrr BLurrs, Towa, Sept. 20, 1884, Wheat—No. 1 milling, 60@65; No, 8, 50@ 60; rojectedd 5. 5 i orn—Local purposes, 35@40. The man Evans, who was released from jail here, where he has been held on a charge of keeping a boot-leg saloon, seems to have had bad luck across the river. He reports that near the depot he was slugged by two men with whom he was going to get a drink, and that they robbed him of $9.50, all he had with him, A false alarm of fire from box 27 caused the department to turn out yester- day morning about 8 o'clock. The alarm seems to have been caused by repairers at work on the wires. The streots are in a very bad condition for a speedy turning out of the department, Broadway being torn up so that it is impossible in most places to croes, The two fellows who claimed to have been robbed at the Cay house the other night do not find many to believe their statements about the aflair, The Cay house is so managed that the guests and boarders are pretty well protected from sneak thieves, and the reputation of these two who claim to have been robbed leads many to believe that they were drunk, and either lost or spent their money or else did not have any such amount to lose, Mr. W.
