Roiter's now fall stock of cloths Two plain drunks in police court yes- torday. Twenty-nine prisoners are in the county jail, Six pages of the Pacific house register were used yesterday. The justices’ courts wers yesterday freo from any cases. “Why do you resign your alderman position, Judge James?" The Willow avenue sewer will proba- bly be completed to-morrow. Jacob Schoop was arrested by Ofticer Mullen for being tangle-footed. All of the regular police and a number of special were on duty yesterday. County Clerk Strect has issued thirty- three marriage licenses so far this month. 1t took fifteen minutes to a second for the parade to pass a certain point yester- day. Thomas McCarthy, the U, P. telegraph operator, is the proud father of a new girl baby, Considering the crowd yesterday on the streets, there was very little drunken- ness or deviltry. Henry Reel and Laura West, both of Loveland, were yesterday married by Justice Schurz. James Oorton was fined in the police court yesterday $7.60, the regular price for getting drunk, The “*X. Y. Z.” club has prepared an enjoyable social for this evening at the Congregational church, The Blaine and Logan club made a very creditable torchlight parade and drill Wednesday evening. John Hogan, of Omaha, was yesterday roquested to pay $7.60 into the city troasary for being drunk. The managers of the Barnum show and one hundred of the performers were quar- tered at the Pacific yesterday. Miss Bella Lowery, of Omaha, was yesterday united in matrimony, by Judge Schurz, to H, L. Kenegy, of Freeport, Illinots, 1t is probable that tho gallant admiral will, however, be induced to hold on a little longer, and the proffered resigna- tion may have a good effect, Mr. Alexander Seward. who lives near Underwood, while driving to Council Bluffs yesterday, was thrown from his wagon and had his left leg broken. In the United States court the time yesterday was occupied in a further hear- ing of the case of Eli Clayton vs. The ‘Western Union Telegraph company. Col. Jesse Harper will address the workingmen of Council Bluffs Tuesday ovening, September 30th. If the weather is fine, in the park, if not, in the court house, L. C. Taylor, who has made so much trouble for the police, and was requested by Judge Aylesworth to leave the oity, was yesterday again arrested by oflicor O'Brien, A man was found yesterday back of Bokemper's saloon badly beaten and so drunk that he could not tell his name. He had a ticket in his pocket from Hast- ings to Council Bluffs and return, Mr. Smith, the proprietor of the Re- vere house, is preparing two build a two story frame houso at the corner of Myns- ter and Seventh streot, the plans and the work to be executed by Mandemaker & Van, Dr.andMrs. Charlos Lyman have been heavily bereaved by the death of their little daughter Grace Maud, aged 1 year. The funeral took place from the family | the chemlcals and suppressing the flames. A fight occurred yesterday afternoon on Main street near Broadway, In which ne of the principals, a fellow with a not tend upon the subject however, If the newspaper men did not enjoy themselves at Barnum’s show yesterday, it surely was not the fault of D. S. Thomas, tho press agent. All such worn- out terms as “genial and gentlemanly’ must be thrown aside when It come to describe Mr, Thomas, The courtesios, and the courteous way of extending them, will long keep green the memory of Mr. Thomas and Barnum'’s big show, among the Council Blufls’ newspaper fraternity. 1t waa pretty well demonstrated yester- day that clean management of a big show is not only appreciated by the public but has a great effect on the public. Barnum has not only got together a clean-mouth- od, courteous-mannered lot of people, but the character of his entertainment drew one of the cleanest, best dressed and best behaved big crowds ever seen In Council Bluffs, and the army of crooks which generally follow in the wake of the ordinary circus was reduced to a handful, “Well, I'll tell you. We in the 4th ward pay about half the taxes of the city and we can’t get any work done there. You know things are in a terrible shape there, and a great deal needs to be done on the streets, and yot wo cannot got a thing. The other wards get work done, but the council won't do anything for us. Then the people pitch into me and blame me for it. I've got tired of it; it fsn’t my fault that the 4th ward is ignored; I have done what 1 could, but the council pays no attention to the demands for work there, but I catch all the cussing; I am sick of it.” BARNUM'S DAY, The Streets and the Tents Crowded With People From Far and Near, Yesterday thero was a great ingathor- ing of people from the country and a great outpouring-of people in the city, all caused by Barnum'’s great show being here. The unfinished paving of Broad- way made it impossible for much of that street to be used, as usual, for street par- ade, and the uncortainty of the line of parade, caused the crowds to surge first in one direction and then another, and each report or rumor would cause a hur- ried change of position for those who heard it. The parade took place at last and it was by no means diflicult then to leavo ita line, for the streets were packed with oager lookers-on. The parade was the finest ever seen here, novel in its fea- tures, brilliant in appearance, great ox- tent and interesting in all respects, The great tents were crowded both af- ternoon and evening, and with the best classes of poople. All seemed more than pleased, They were enthusiastic over the fulfilling of even the high expecta- tions felt. The grand entree was grand, in fact it was more, of the colored water peddlars, and the purposless announcementejusually proced- ing each circus act was appreclated. The clowns were unusually funny., The equestrisnism was really extraordinary, and the athletic acts new and wonderful in many respects, The gladiatorial con- tests and the chariot races also called forth great applause. The only trouble with the show is its immensity. While one needs to see it to get very much of an idea of what it is, yet in tho seeing one doos not get a full idea; it is too big. e Pusey and Fusion, The following letter shows how tho democratic candidade for congress is will- to fuse and be fused with tho greenback candidate for election, Dr, Hatton, Councir, BLurrs, September 26, Hon. J. B, Hatton, Red Oak, Towa— DEAR Sui—At a meeting of our con- residence on Seventeenth streot yester- day afternoon, The Clerk yosterday issued marriage permits to H. L. Kenegy of Freport, Ills., and Bella Lowrey of Omaha, J, W. Dea- kin and Cora G. Johnston both of Coon Raplds, and to Henry Roel and Laura West both of Loveland, One of the heavy wagous containing tho circus tent in swinging around the northwest corner of Bayliss park, broke through the culvert and cross-walk and was stuck. 1t took sixteon horaes to pull the wagon and its load out. A jeweller named James B. Lorge, from Glenwood, yesterday dropped on the street ina fit. He was taken to the police headquarters whero he remained until he seemed strong enough to walk off. Later in the day he was arrested for being drunk, The evening democratic twinkle takes Tue Bee to task for its statement in re- gard to the sewerago bonds, Tug Bre nevertheless sticks by the statement made yesterday and refers the roady eritic to the city wuditor's official register of bonde, The handsomest campaign banner seen hereas yet, is the new one put out in front of the Cleveland and Hendricks heaiquarters, It is finished in oil and bears the pertriats of the two candidates. The banner cost $100, The Pacific houss }as been supplied with band grenades to be used in sup- pressing fires in case of need, They are littlo g'ass jara filled with chemicals, and when throvn the jers break, scattering gressional committee held here it was their unanimous request that 1 should invite you to canvass this district in company with me. It gives me great pleasure to extend to you this invita- tion, especially because I think your acceptance of it will redound to the greatest good of the people, Co-operation among those sgreeing upon the various and vital questions of government which may be adopted in their behalf, On the question of the decision of the supreme court on the 1ssue of legal tonder notes 1 think with you it is a finality, On quens- tions of state and inter-state commerce wo hold identical views, as also on the proper laws of taxation and the true dignity and rights of labor. Should we differ ou any of the minor details of your party faith it would be on questions which can bo without especial detriment bo deferred until the more important and all absorbing questions of the hour have been dacided, the decision of which natu- rally precedes the rccomplishment and working out of those dotails, Hoping for a favorable answer, and that we may begin our canvass at an early day, 1 am very truly yours, W, H, M. Puskv. — Dropped Dead, Yesterday morning Steve Garner, of Macedonis, while at the depot in Missou- ri Valley, waiting for the train to come down to this city, dropped suddenly on the platform, and died with hardly a strugglo, heart disenso being apparently the cavse.
