James McGloon, who was arrested for pulling off his coat and threatening to whip his, boss, was discharged on a hear- ing beforo Judgo Aylesworth yestorday morning, the judge warning him not to pull off his coat 8o quickly next time. The paste brigade of Barnum's circus was here, and made headquarters at the Pacific. Yesterday Connell’s undertak- ing wagon was used to take several of the men down Main street, and this gave rise to the rumor that a coroner’s jury had gone down to sit on the body of a man who had been killed by the cars. Mr. H. 8. Boyle is reported as still suffering from the clubbing which he re- ceived at the hands of Officer Austin at the races. Nothing has been done toward an investigation yet, and probably there will be nothing done until Mr. Boyle's health is in such a condition that he can attend to it. The pacer Elkhorn, fast trotter Blazewood were yestorday shod by Nash Bros., 719 Broadway, before being shipped away. It seems conceded that he can have the democratic nomina- tion if he wants it. There is some little whispering, however, of running Bolter. The theory is presented that if Bolter is nominated, he having always had rather a greenback tendency, there can bea fusion of greenbackers with the democ- racy, thus giving him 1,500 to 2,000 votes which Pusey cannot get. It is predicted by some that, if a successful fusion can be made, Bolter will be put up as Judgo Lyman's opponent. Tn regard to the judicial nominations, it seems conceded that Judge Aylesworth can have the nomination for district judge if he will take it. Robert Percival, of u‘m city, is also very favorably spoken of, For district attornoy, the name of R. Shawvan, of Crawford, will doubtless now be dropped out, as Mr. Lally, of Denison, seoms to have captured the con- vention there. Mr. Hammond, of Fre. mont, and G. W. The street car track on Broadway was recently thrown over to on side to be temporarily used while the street im- provements were going on, but it seems now that there will be no immediato chance to lay the new and permanent track. The old track is being repaired, new rails being put in the place of those most worn. Georgo Ferguson's fine family horse “DuRock” died yesterday after being sick for about a week. ‘The loss is a heavy one, not merely because of the market value of the animal but because of hls being just the kind of a horse thnt was needed by the family, and becaus: they had driven him for sevoral years and became attached to him, There was a lively time at Bokem p ers saloon on Main street at a late hour on Tuesday night. A man nawed Harmon Tineman was sleeping in a chair when the hour of midnight came, and the proprie- tor wishing to close up, went to him and shook him up, Tineman claims that he ‘was struck and kicked, and used roughly, which is denled by others. But anyway, he was roaring mad, and as he went out he oicked up a beer keg and threw it in- to the saloon, striking and breaking the screen. Another keg he threw through the window, smashing the glass, There was a general pow wow then, and a call for the police. ‘lineman was run in and yesterday was fined $15.00. He couldn’t pay, and went to jail. The move on the part of the barbers to have all the shops closed on Sunday seems to have but few opposers, It is claimed that if all the shops joined in the move, there wou!d be as much money made as running seven days and that the men who do the work need one day a week at least. A large number have joined in signing a petition asking the council to pass an ordinance with & pen- alty ot $10 to $25 for each and every vi- olation, the petitioners promising to not only obey it but help to enforce it. 1t is understood that the proprietors of one or two of the hotel shops object as they Bohn, who |Property inside of the city limits being xempt from this, The school tax s 4} mills, and the county tax 135 mills, making this levy it is interesting to note that the valuation of the county in 1874, ton years ago, was about $8,000,000} now it is about $11,000,000. Dur- ing the same ten years the total assessed valuation of the city itself has increased in about the same proportion as the county at largo, but the city’s indebtnoss has not been diminished as has the county, it having for the last ten years been up to the full constitutional limit most of the time, e — Death Of Rev, Father Mulholland. Yesterday about the noon hour death relieved from further labor and suffering, Rev, Arthur R. Mulholland, the assis- ant pastor of Rev, Father McMenomy. The event was not unexpeocted, for it has seemod for soveral days that the worthy man could not long tarry among oyen those who were s0 loth to have him go, and who surrounded him with every pos- sible attention and care to nourish and cherish his life. Still, expected as death illness was of but a fow day's durati Last Saturday night the worthy priest was soized with a_chill, although some emier Sunday, and hoping to soon be soon by more unfavorable symptoms, and soon hope of friends and brother priests died out, and he passed away yes- torday noon as peacefully as a child fall- ing into slumber, Reverend Father Mulholland was born in Louga county, Ireland, and was about forty years of age. He was educated in the old country, and was ordained in St, Louis, being & priest in that diocese un- til & year ago last Christmas when he came here as assistant to Rev. Father McMenomy, During his stay here he has endeared himself greatly to the people, and has many friends and admirers in all olassos of the community, and his death will be sincorely mourned. His_rola- tives live in St. Louis, and thoy will find that in their sorrow they will find many warm, sympathizing hearts here.
