Among the recent recruits to the Hed Ribbon ranks is a young man of your city named Ryan who whilo not a very frightful example has been quite an expert painter of towns with roseate hues. He has joined the O’Shea branch of the apostles here who look upon the temperance question as one which shold be conducted on purely business pinciples. They say they do not believe in killing off all who drink morely because of that fact; they think that reform in the matter should be con- ducted where it is really necessary and will do the most good. Just as any seu- sible business man would manage the atfairs of the calling life. STORM, em— FRIDAY NIGHT'S It Strikes Lincoln Real Hard, Doing Much Damage, Lincoln Journal, 12th, Probably the worst storm that bas vis- ited Lincoln this season swept down upon us about 6 o'clock Friday night from the southwest. In the western part of the city it was not considered much of a and outside of a fow trees that storm, were broken, no damag dono, Eas of about Thirteenth street, however, the zalo was little loes than a cyclone, and om moeagre reports received it is be- lieved that the country to the east of the city euffered even more soverely. The storm began by a stiff brecze from the southwest which filled the air as well as the eyes, ears aud mouths of podes- triang, with dust., The wind did not reach its hoighth, however, until the rain dust but it rendered pedostr moro disagrooable than before. The | rain was accompanied by a slight fall of hail, not enough to do any damage in the city, but we learn that the rural districts aufferod quite serioualy. The storm was of short duration, aud after it subsided a reporter started out to see what he could o0 and hear. The most noticeable effect of the storm was the large number of trees broken. Large limbs six or eight inches in diame- ter were twisted off and carrted in some instances a hundred feet, while others were broken off just above the ground, and lefe to blockade the sidewalks and streets. ‘The broom factory of N. W Frazer, on tho corner of Kourteenth and I, standing broadside to tho south, felt tho full force of the wind and was left fully two feet off from a plumb line, Ono of she houses on Sixteenth street now being remodeled by T. 1. Barnes, is somewhat wrecked and out of line and appears to have beon moved about two inches on its foundation. W. J. Lamb’s wind mill, just in the rear of G. M. Lambertson’s residence on Fourteenth street, was levelled to the ground, Auother wind mill, belonging to 8. W. Little, on R atreet, was also blown down. Several chimneys on buildings owned by Richards Bros., on P street, were blown down. A window was blown in in the resi- dence of Charles West, on R street. Two windows were blown in and a chimney levelled on a house ocoupied by T. J. Curtiss on P street, near KFour- teenth, A chimney was blown from the Clifton house, on the corner of Twelfth and N. atreets, After the storm a farmer living about fonr miles cast came to town to get glass, saying that ‘every window in the south and west sides of his house 'was broken. He reports that the hail cut the corn down pretty badly. Further reports could not be obiained last night, but it is probable that some very bad news will come in to-day. A NEEDED INSTITUTION, A County Hospital About to be Eg tablished, An institution long talked of and much longer needed, a county hospital, is about to be established in this city by a number of gentlemen having the interest of the public af heart. It will be open to hoth sexes and for wll non-contagious diseases, It is in. tended to have a dopartment for charlty patients who are to be cared for the same oy paying ones, This hospital will be started in one of Dr. Rabody’s large houses near the corner of Fourteenth DEMDGRAGV S DOSE.
