TORN BY A THUNDERBOLT, Homan's Livery Barn Struck by Lightning Last Evening, Last evening about 6 o’clock and while the sun was shining clear, Mr. Homan and the men at work about his barn, on Thirteenth street near Howard, were startled by a loud report. It was first thought that a keg of powder in [Steele Tohnson & Co.’s store house had ex- ploded, but the appearance of dense smoke in the rear of the stable dispelled this belief. On examination a large hole on the side of the building marking the course of a thunder-bolt was found. Sometime ago when the alley, along the barn, was graded the ground wiro of the lightning rod to the barn was torn off and had never been replaced. It appeared that the bolt striking therod had followed to the end, then running off into the barn ran along an iron bolt until it reached the electric light wire and melting it off’ was lost.
