Soon after the opening a selling movement set in, which lasted, with few interruptions, until after 2 p.am, Reports affecting the credit of prominent capital and financial institutions were freely circu- lated. The reports in each case proved to be unfounded. Money wa3 again manipulated, and the rate was bid up to 16 per cent, In the final dealings, the movement was parti- | allylost, but the market closed steady. Com- pared with Saturday's closing, prices are § to 1 per cent lower. Active shares commanded a bonus for use. During the afternoon houses with Chicago connections were free sellers. This had an unsetting effoct, Lackawanna was exceptionally strong, and closed fc higher on the day. The weakest stocks were St. Paul, Northwest, Quincy, Illinois Central, Chicago & Alton, Canada Southern, and Western Union.
